Using a tape recorder in English lessons
One of the most important tasks of teaching foreign languages is the development of students' ability to understand foreign speech by ear at a normal conversational pace, as well as the development of skills for the automated use of the studied models. / 8 /
The tape recorder is used to train and control the skills and abilities of listening and pronunciation.
To improve pronunciation skills, the tape recorder is mainly used when conducting phonetic exercises at the beginning of the lesson.
Phonetic exercises with intervals between words, pairs of words or between phrases are tapped. What is heard is reproduced during pauses at the gesture of the teacher. At first, this is done individually, and then in chorus. At the initial stage, the educational material is listened to repeatedly.
Phonetic exercise takes about 5 minutes in a lesson and contributes not only to “articulation tuning”, but also to the successful improvement of pronunciation and the use of correct intonation in a foreign language. / 23 /
When working with a tape recorder at the initial stage, game techniques are widely used. Various sentences, individual words are recorded with pauses on a tape recorder. During pauses, students must insert the appropriate word, word form, sentence.
Songs in English lessons
E.S. Sherr, teacher of English, school No. 838 of Moscow, describes his pedagogical experience in the use of auditory visualization.
A comprehensive solution to the practical, educational, educational and developmental tasks of training is possible only if it influences not only the consciousness of the trainees, but also penetrates into their conscious sphere.
One of the most effective ways to influence the feelings and emotions of students is music. Songs provide an opportunity to relax, take a short break in routine learning activities in the classroom. This is a kind of relaxation in the middle or at the end of the lesson, when you need unloading, relieving stress and restoring performance./ 24/
Nowadays, American and English songs have become very common in English classes. When introducing songs from the country of the language being studied, the lesson becomes more varied and interesting. In addition, it allows you to replenish vocabulary. An American folk song can act as an auditory visual in an English lesson.
Folk songs are invaluable in educating the personality of young people. Their wisdom, melody and contagiousness instill a high aesthetic taste, teach friendship, kindness, collectivism, tolerance, help to learn the culture and history of the country of the language being studied. / 28 /
In the country of native English speakers, a folk song with its specific content and melody plays a huge role in educating and uniting the younger generation, inheriting the best traditions of their people. But for the foreign language environment, the knowledge of the nature of the folk song and melodics of the countries of the studied language also has an invaluable educational and educational value. The fact is that when getting acquainted with the song, students quickly comprehend lexical constructions, idioms, phraseological turns and melodic intonation patterns of the language. In addition, the story of its creation is prefaced to each song, the etymology of the most important terms is given, and each song is accompanied by exercises, the teacher has the opportunity to use all this as auxiliary material for a better understanding of the content, meaning, and often the connotation of the song being studied. / 16 /
The recommendations of the compilers of the collection to teachers who teach schoolchildren these songs are very useful. For example, first it is recommended to explain to the children the title of the song and briefly describe its content, drawing attention to key repetitive words or phrases. Then it is proposed to listen to the whole song so that the guys feel its intonation. After clarifying unfamiliar terms, the teacher can move on to the history of the creation of the song. If there are grammatical structures in the song that have not yet been studied by schoolchildren, it is advisable to explain them, at least briefly. The guys get photocopies of the song, or write it down from the words of the teacher, who, for ease, can use the blackboard to write down individual lines or new terms. After that, the students sing the song, tracing the stanzas through the text.
To link song learning to the curriculum, students complete the exercises that come with each song, choosing those that match or are close to one or another section of the vocabulary and grammar being studied by the class. At the same time, options are possible: some exercises can be performed by the whole class, some in group work, and some in pairs./ 24/
Songs can be used for various purposes:
 to dramatize the song;
 convey the content of the song in your own words;
 change direct speech to indirect;
 write a play, create dialogues based on it, imagine what the characters say to each other according to the song;
 project - based on the song, you can start some kind of research work, writing a project.
There is no doubt that Russian teachers of English, who use English and American folk songs with their specific melody and rhythm in their practice, share the opinion that this is a very productive activity that contributes to a better assimilation of English vocabulary and grammar, as well as developing the communication skills of Russian students./ 28/
The texts of some songs are attached, the songs are all known, students are happy to get acquainted with them in the lessons. /Appendix 15/
For example, the construction This is ... is well remembered by students in the following rhyme:
This is my mother
This is my father
This is my brother, tall.
This is my sister
This is my granny.
Oh, how I lowe them all.
In a playful way, with the involvement of very simple rhymes, work is being done to consolidate grammatical and lexical material in the memory of the children. / 25 /
