Introduction
The process of smelting copper concentrates in suspension, due to a number of advantages, is becoming increasingly common in the copper smelting industry.
The essence of flash smelting lies in the fact that dry copper concentrate mixed with finely ground fluxes is blown by hot air, air-oxygen or oxygen blast into a furnace preheated to high temperatures, in which the processes of oxidation of sulfides, melting of the charge take place, prerequisites for the formation of slag are created and matte. Depending on the conditions of the process and the composition of the concentrates being processed, flash smelting can proceed autogenously; without carbonaceous fuel, or with the addition of some fuel.
The widespread use of flash smelting and its practical use at enterprises in our country and other countries of the world determine the need to generalize the theory and practice of the process of flash smelting of copper concentrates. This course project provides the theoretical basis of the process, the design of the PVP furnace, the calculation of the mineralogical composition, material and heat balance.
