COURSE DESCRIPTION 
The course, Academic English, applies an academic process to the second or foreign language learners, and it entails training students 
to use the language appropriate for study. Students will have an idea of the tenses of the language, the use of prepositions, the rules of 
application of articles, be able to express their ideas using tenses, prepositions and articles, and be able to express and use their own 
views on topics such as themselves, their family members, travel, be able to listen, understand, read, and speak fluently. 
 


 

RATIONALE 
The course is designed for intermediate low to intermediate mid-levelled students who will benefit from an intensive skill-building 
curriculum. The focus of the course will be on speaking, listening, reading and writing skill practices, applications, and integration 
across the disciplines at the university level. Students will be expected to successfully demonstrate and apply appropriate 
university-level on four macro skills to a variety of assignments and assessments through reading and analyzing stories, texts, articles, 
listening tasks related to the given topics, speaking on different topic-related issues, working on their pronunciation as well as accents, 
writing various letters, texts using different grammatical rules.
At the end of the course, students are expected to increase their level from intermediate low and mid to an upper – intermediate level.
