The subject of the course:
One of the main features of modern English territorial dialects (as well as dialects of other languages) is their conservatism. These or other deviations from the literary standard are mostly due not to evolution, but to the lack of evolution: many linguistic phenomena of various periods of the history of the language are preserved in dialects, as well as various kinds of foreign language layers - Scandinavian, Norman, etc. Another feature of modern English dialects is their variance at all language levels (phonetics, grammar and especially vocabulary).
Relevance of the course work:
Many authors also point out that the so-called "redundancy" is a characteristic feature of the dialect system. This means, for example, turns used in Ireland, such as: It's sorry you will be instead of You will be sorry or paraphrases like I do love instead of I love, used in the southwest. counties, a pile of negations in a phrase, etc.
Objectives of the course work:
The purpose of this work is to consider modern dialects of Great Britain. This goal allowed us to formulate the following objectives of our study:
1. Consider the general principles of English dialectology.
2. Show the development of British dialects.
. Give a classification of English dialects and show their features.

The scientific novelty of the course work:
The relevance of this work lies in the fact that familiarization with English dialects makes it possible to understand the specifics of various forms of existence of the language, because, as Prof. V.N. Yartsev, language in its concrete existence acts as a multifaceted system (literary language, territorial and social dialects), as a contradictory unity, realized in the diversity of its functional and structural features. In particular, only the study of territorial dialects makes it possible to reveal the essence of the so-called colloquial English speech and social dialects, which are closely related to territorial dialects.
