  2. Little Marthadid her firstcomposition in school today. It was called “my family”

  3. We have to hand in an assignment at the end of the course. It can consist of up to five different pieces of work.

  4. The teacher gave us the title of this week’s dissertation today. We have to write 1000 words on the topic of “if I ruled the world ” and hand it in next Monday.

  5. At the end of this course you have to do a 5000-word this project which will be assessed ,and the grade will contribute to your final degree.

  6. I think I will do a study of people’s personal banking habits for my MSc dissertation. It has to be about 12000 words

When I am cramming for an exam, I don’t see any point in looking up past papers , nor is there any point in just learning things rout learning. I know some people develop very clever memory mnemonics to help them remember the materials, but there is no real substitute for bury yourself in your books the term’s work. It’s a good idea to have some sort of mind-map and memorized is useful, but in a limited way. At the end of the day, you just have to know the subject inside out until you feel you know the subject 100 percent.

Here are some idiomatic expressions about studying and exams which are not on the opposite page. Use the context to guess what they mean and choose the right answer.
