China has the largest population of any population in the world. The desert is located in the Northwest. The plateau is located in the Southwest. The plain is located in the Northeast. The Tibetan plateau has a very high elevation and low temperatures. The Taklamakan desert is located in the northwest and helped to protect China from invaders. Since the rivers freeze in the winter China uses these as roads to travel. The best place to grow rice in ancient China is in the Chang Jiang Basins. More people settled in Inner China than in Outer China because of the fertile land. .
