Introduction
The history of the emergence, formation, and development of the United States in world culture has aroused interest and many questions. From its inception, America has captivated the continent with its uniqueness and mystery, full of hope and opportunity. In the eyes of Europe, America is the only country that has become a promised paradise, a paradise island where everyone can find their place, make their dreams come true, and move away from feudalism. America seemed brave, free, and open to all. On the basis of these ideas, a concept such as the “American Dream” that has taken root not only in the minds of Americans themselves and immigrants, but in the minds of the entire world was formed. This notion was finally established in the minds of the American people after the proclamation of the Declaration of Independence, where the right to life and freedom, along with the right to “seek happiness,” emerged. However, this right was given to everyone whose roads were completely open.
With the development of American history, the most important definition of American life, the “American Dream,” has also changed. The lives of Americans changed in the early twentieth century with the onset of difficult days in the economy and politics of the country and the world, and attitudes toward the “American Dream” began to change, were criticized, and eventually changed. It became an "American tragedy." The basic idea of American reality and the phenomenon of change of idea are clearly reflected in American literature, often expressed in the novel genre. Along with the history of the country, attitudes toward American life, its dreams and aspirations have changed, leading to a critical analysis of the consequences of the assertion that anyone can succeed with their own initiative, hard work and luck.
By the mid-20th century, American writers were not only critical of the analysis of American history and spiritual development, but also of the implicit consequences of following the American Dream.
By the second half of the 20th century, a unique phenomenon of journalism and a new genre and approach to literature had emerged in American literature - the emergence of a “new journalism” that included a synthesis of documentary basis and artistic form. timsoli. Journalists and writers tried to present American reality based on real events so that readers could live the lives of the people they wrote about. Such an approach to the extreme realism and documentary nature of events has helped Americans see the consequences of following the "American Dream" that has taken root since the founding of the United States. Prominent representatives of New Journalism are publicists, writers, and screenwriters Truman Capote and Norman Meyler, who embodied the ideas of New Journalism in their novels Cold Blood and The Song of the Executioner. he tells the story of a sensational murder. These novels became a vivid depiction of American reality and the tragedy associated with the failure of its “American Dream”.
Written in the third person with Norman Mailer as the protagonist, this section is likely a first-hand account of Mailer's actions during the march. Beginning with an excerpt from "Time", the novel begins with Norman Mailer at home answering a call from Mitch Goodman, a college friend, with the opportunity to march at the Pentagon and, in particular, the opportunity of speed "at the Justice Department in honor of the students who issue their call cards. Convinced, Mailer promises to be unclaimed, but "can't pretend I'm glad about it." a decision that Mailer will be holding at the Ambassador Theatre. This event, due to Mailer drinking too much, embarrasses himself and leads Time to write that "muttering and out of obscenity as he staggers through the expectations he appropriated, threatening to beat up big MCs after being late to the beginning of the ceremony. “Mailer detailed his search for a useful stowage in his suitcase.” Mailer referred to himself as a multiple ego, for example; The Prince of Bourbon and the Beast embraced the role of MC as a result with the other speakers. The next day, he oversees the emergence of manifestations where 996 draft cards are handed out.
On a March day, Saturday, Mailer of the first cases at the Pentagon and investigates the success of his arrest. He does this without resisting, the rest of him in the Deal. He then interacts with the neo-Nazi on site and is then transferred to the cell where the seat is located in the expansion of the court. While there, he discusses whether he should give his cellmates some of the money he would bail out himself in the first place, rather than give away most of it. Rumors about how they happen in the Pentagon are topics of conversation. They are then all transferred to a workhouse in Occoquan, Virginia, and Mailer takes up residence there. While he sleeps, the section "Why we are in Vietnam" is presented. After his arrest, Mailer is interviewed by British journalist Dick Fontaine with a documentary filmmaker. Mailer is often very happy to see them and gladly gives interviews at their request. Under the deal offer, which sees protesters march on the Nolo Contendere and receive a five-day suspended sentence. Mailer initially refuses, wanting to plead guilty. Despite changing his mind, Mailer is still being judged more harshly for his actions and is expected to be given 30 days and a $50 fine. After a lengthy legal battle, Mailer is released and gives a rambling speech about Jesus Christ to the press.
