Following a review of mediation practices, including 
consultation with the legal profession, the main changes 
include the requirement for insurers to attend mediation if 
negotiating for a party; foreshadowing the option for more 
expansive requests for information by the mediator and use 
of preliminary conferences; and clarification of the basis for 
calculating fees payable. 
The Chief Justice's approval of mediators under s 69 (b) of 
the 
Supreme Court Act 1935 
(WA) is to be retained internally 
in accordance with revised PD 4.2.1 par 2.
