Introduction
Animals have always played a significant role in the life of our planet. They were deified and often used by primitive people in rituals, namely, from the ritual, according to many linguists, the language arose. The significant role of animals in the picture of the world is adequately reflected in the linguistic picture of the world. Man has never done without animals, since ancient times they live in close interaction with each other. Animals accompanied him all his life, being an integral part of him. Some of them had a symbolic meaning. So, for example, a cow was considered a celestial being, the personification of heaven and deity. The horse personified the twilight of the chthonic world, was considered a product of the night. As for the cat, it was a symbol of witchcraft and evil [Makovsky, 1992 ]. In the ancient picture of the world, dogs occupied an extremely low position and were considered unclean creatures, moreover, in the popular mind, they were often identified with devilish forces [Miller, 1876].
The most complete idea of native speakers lies in the phraseological units of a given language, since it is in them that the history of the people, life and worldview are reflected.
The relevance of this work lies in the fact that phraseological units containing zoonyms (names of animals) represent a fairly large layer of vocabulary and are highly used .
The object of the study is phraseological units with a component - zoonym , selected from the English-Russian phraseological dictionary and A.V. Kunin [1967], as well as from English and American fiction.
The purpose of this work is to study the ways of translating an English phraseological unit with a zaonym component into Russian.
This goal involves the solution of the following tasks:
- consider the translation strategy as a whole;
- to give an analysis of translations of texts containing phraseological units with zoonyms , using different types of transformations.
For a detailed analysis of phraseological units, the following methods were used:
- method of phraseological identification;
- descriptive method;
- contextual method;
- Comparative analysis.
