1. Introduction 
Initially, soil tillage implements had the objectives to 
answer agronomic requirements while improving the 
field capacity. With the generalized use of machines, 
the objectives became to search tools and techniques 
that permits soil conservation and to a certain extent 
water conservation in the arid and semi-arid zones. 
Later, with the crisis of the oil in the seventies, the 
energy saving at the time of crops planting became a 
major preoccupation of many researchers and 
farmers. The present report, investigate difficulties 
met by research in the area of soil tillage. Then, it tries 
to summaries the actions of soil tillage tools and their 
performances in relation to their adjustments, 
mechanical state and conditions of their utilization. 
Finally, the author attempt to discuss the reason of the 
soil tillage and some considerations of new ways of 
executing this operation.
