Conclusions

Narrowband IoT as a technology has the potential to introduce lasting change in IoT and the surrounding world. Technology is gaining popularity. Examples of its

application in relation to smart city are just one of many possibilities of usage. Undoubtedly, this technology is helpful in monitoring selected functions and activities, and the results of this control provide a solid basis for making strategic decisions for city authorities.

NB-IoT standardisation ended in June 2016 and gave rise to its further development. In addition to the special benefits for known IoT applications, NB-IoT also opens, as part of the 5 G program, broad prospects for the future with wide application possibilities (Brdulak, 2020). The introduction of 5 G will further contribute to the mass dissemination of the Internet of Things through new opportunities, including open multiple access schemes. In addition, 5G is expected to support new services such as mission critical control, for example in robotics, aviation, healthcare, industrial control and vehicle devel- opment. In this case, improvement of delays and availability will be required. Adopting this way of thinking, in the near future 5G, including NB-IoT technology that supports it, will play a decisive role in the further development of the Internet of Things – providing uniform, even more efficient connectivity in the future and giving even better manage- ment options for individual areas of the city.
