At heart [Expression] (in someone's real nature).
He's 80 years old, but he's still young at heart. I still feel like a teenager at heart.
Alert [Noun] (a warning to people to be prepared to deal with something dangerous that might happen soon).
The tsunami alert was cancelled.
Be alert when you cross a busy street!
Awestruck [Adjective] (feeling very surprised or impressed by something).
He was awestruck when the announcer said his name during the awards presentation.
When Sarah’s husband bought her a brand new house, she was awestruck.
Appetite [Noun] (a natural desire for food).
He suffered from a headache and a loss of appetite.
My brother does a lot of sports, so he has quite an appetite.
An inevitable consequence [Noun] (certain to happen and unable to be avoided or prevented).
It was an inevitable consequence of the decision.
Flooding, cyclones, and storms will be an inevitable consequence.
Appropriate [Adjective] (suitable or proper for a particular purpose or situation).
His speech on retirement was appropriate for his middle-aged audience. For me, wearing jeans to the office is appropriate.
A concrete jungle [Noun] (a way to describe a city that has many modern buildings and few green spaces, so it is unpleasant to live in).
We survived in a concrete jungle.
This house was surrounded by fields; now it is in the middle of a concrete jungle.
A social butterfly [Noun] (refers to an extrovert person who is social or friendly with everyone).
He is a true social butterfly. He has friends on all of the sports teams. Jane is definitely a social butterfly. She's got friends everywhere.
A high-flyer [Noun] (someone who has the strong desire to be very successful).
He's a self-made millionaire at the young age of 22! He's quite a high-flyer! Her dad used to be a corporate high-flyer but after a stroke, he can't.
Adulation [Noun] (excessive admiration or praise).
The rock star enjoyed the adulation of his fans.
Her adulation to him was strong, stronger than she had planned for. Avid [Adjective] (very enthusiastic about something (often a hobby)). He was an avid fan of Chelsea football team.
She is an avid admirer of horror movies. My father took an avid interest in politics.
