Broaden one’s knowledge [Verb] (to widen one’s knowledge of something).
He is taking some courses to broaden his knowledge.
She took advantage of her father's extensive library to broaden her knowledge.
Reference book [Noun] (a book that is intended to be used for information on specific matters, for example, a dictionary, encyclopedia, atlas etc).
A dictionary is an excellent reference book.
It is a very thorough grammar reference book with clear explanations.
Bedtime story [Noun] (a story read or told to children at bedtime).
My mother used to read me bedtime stories. My dad read me a bedtime story every night.
Blockbuster [Noun] (a book, show or film that is very successful).
That new movie is a blockbuster.
That blockbuster made about 40 million dollars.
Action movie = Kung Fu film [Noun] (a film/movie that contains lots of action and violence).
Jack has loved action movies since he was a teenager. Action movies and horror films are my favourite genres.
Animated film [Noun] (cartoon).
A new live-action version of the classic animated film will be released later this year.
After dinner, he likes watching animated film.
Horror films [Noun] (a film with a frightening storyline and atmosphere, especially the one about murders, frightening creatures, or evil people).
Do you enjoy watching horror films? I don't like horror movies.
Release [Verb] (to set free).
When will the film be released?
The movie will be released next month.
Subtitle [Noun] (a translation displayed at the bottom of a movie screen).
A secondary or explanatory title.
The film is in Chinese with English subtitles.
A feast for the eyes and ears [Noun] (to describe something that is pleasant to watch and listen to).
The movie truly was a feast for the eyes and ears.
Seeing The Focke Wolves perform for the first time was a feast for the eyes and ears.
Censorship [Noun] (the act of supervising).
The library used censorship to keep some books off their shelves. They applied censorship to all radio stations in the country.
Poetic [Adjective] (connected with poetry).
The piece ends with a truly poetic slow movement.
The lyrics to some of the Beatles' songs were often quite poetic.
The description of the city is quite poetic and romantic.
