My insights about the course
One of the primary things we acquired during the second trimester was Comparative Methodology of Teaching English Language (CMTEL). This topic is very important for all students since it allows them to become familiar with the approaches, methods, and tactics that future instructors will undoubtedly require during the teaching procedure. The three-stage project that we prepared for the final test was extremely important since it may influence my perspective on several subjects.
To begin, this project required us to grasp the IT abilities that any teacher should have in order to generate a wide range of handouts for an effective lecture. This is due to the fact that we had to build an infographic on our own.
Because creating an infographic was a new experience for all of us, we first learnt how to do it on the internet. Then we gathered the necessary information and were able to design one. I believe we improved in many areas as a consequence of this work. For example, as teachers, we learnt the necessity of assessing the level of our students while selecting content. Furthermore, we discovered that not only the content of the information, but also the manner in which it is presented and designed, has a significant impact in grabbing the learners' attention.
Second, with the aid of this work, I changed my mind about becoming a teacher. At the time, I felt teaching was a simple career that took no effort. However, it was only after creating some lesson plans that I realized it is a difficult job. It is hard effort since one must learn to predict the consequence of the lesson plan in order to reach the intended result. For this, he or she must evaluate factors such as the learners' interest and level, as well as their objectives and goals. Although lesson preparation was a bit challenging, I realized that if one has properly mastered theoretical information, he or she will have no issue in the practical portion.
After committing a mistake, I arrived to this conclusion. Initially, I wrote a listening lesson plan without reviewing the lecture materials since I was unfamiliar with the different sorts of listening exercises and thus mixed them in one plan. We were able to remedy the error when my groupmates highlighted the distinctions between two types: one-way and two-way. Furthermore, lesson preparation allowed us to learn how to choose resources for handouts. As a consequence, we identified hundreds of valuable Internet resources that we may include into our future lesson plans.
Another advantage of this group work is that I learnt how to behave as a teacher in the class as well as how to operate as a group member. During a session, I learned the value of body language, particularly eye contact, in conveying information to students. Furthermore, the tone of voice is important in discussing the subject since if the speech is repetitive, the pupils may become bored and fall asleep. Cooperation was appealing to me in addition to being a teacher.
In the past, I disliked working in groups. Then, after working together, I discovered the benefits of group work: I am more inspired when I work as part of a team. I became a firm believer in group work after that.
In conclusion, the subject, particularly the project, was extremely important in many ways. It increased both our practical and theoretical knowledge, taught us how to be teachers, and how to operate as a team.
