Welcome to News and Views – A termly newssheet that updates you on happenings at the breakfast and after school clubs. We hope that this is one effective way of communicating some of the clubs news to you. NEW CLUBS: WHOSH AND GHOSH !!
As many of you already know, we have recently added two sister schemes to the BOSH out of school hours club. In June BOSH took on the out of school hours club at William Hulme’s Grammar School (primary) now named WHOSH (William Hulme’s Out of School Hours) and in September we took over from Fairplay at Gorse Hill Primary school in Stretford; now named GHOSH for obvious reasons! Both new clubs have had a favourable initial inspection by OFSTED and have got off to a cracking start with the help of two excellent new Play managers, Margaret and Anna, and with the help and support of the Head Teachers Mr. Dunn (WHGS) and Mr. Hargrave (Gorse Hill).
The fact that we now have the 3 clubs provides all kinds of benefits to the organisation. With around 20 qualified play workers now working with us, we have a pool of skilled staff to meet the demands of individual clubs. We can also share expertise, experiences and resources between the clubs.

Goodbye and Good luck to:
Christiane Klingner - who came
to BOSH as a Play worker in January. Unfortunately Christiane had to leave us to return home to her native Germany after injuring her knee.
Sarah Daly - joined us last February and made a very positive impact on the children. Sarah has left us to follow her dream career as an outdoor pursuits instructor in the Lake District.
Juliette Wilson – worked with us for over a year on Monday evenings and has left following the completion of her degree course.
Natalia Fedouruk – provided supply cover for us at the tail end of the summer term and at the holiday clubs. Tasia was popular with everyone. Good luck at the University of Bangor!
Hello and welcome to:
Margaret Doran - joined us as Play Manager at WHOSH. Margaret is a highly experienced Play manager with a degree in early childhood studies. She has already made a very positive impact on the club at William Hulme’s Grammar School and is a real asset to BOSH.
Anna Hillock - joined us as Play Manager at GHOSH. Anna comes with the highest qualification in play work and experience from several settings in Preston and Cumbria. Anna’s degree is in fine art, which she is already putting to great use at the GHOSH club.
Farrah Ishtiaq - a special thanks to Farrah who works at WHOSH breakfast club. Farrah has been hugely supportive to BOSH in showing us the ropes at William Hulme’s Grammar School.
Hayley James – a highly qualified and experienced play worker, Hayley has been fantastically helpful in helping BOSH set up at Gorse Hill Primary.

Ongoing thanks must go as usual to our existing long-standing Play workers at BOSH who continue to support us generously during times of considerable change:
Barry, Kim, Malti, Zahida, Babs and Tracy.
In addition to the new staff above, we are in the process of appointing a DEPUTY PLAY MANAGER who will be based at BOSH. S/he will support Catherine day-to-day but will also be available to cover at WHOSH and GHOSH when necessary.
NEW DEDICATED SPACE
As you will know by now BOSH breakfast and after school clubs have moved to a new area in Brookburn School.
Miss Ferris has very kindly allowed us some dedicated space at the front of the school (Miss Gibbard’s old classroom and the areas to the front of it). The Play manager and play workers can now set up activities, display artwork and generally store materials and resources much more efficiently and effectively. We will soon even have our own doorbell! We have just taken delivery of a new fridge-freezer and are up-grading other fixtures and fittings. There is now a ‘snug’ area in the corner of the space (thanks to BOSH parent Helen Cleary for the donation of a 3-seater sofa) this allows children to ‘chill-out’ after a hard day at school.
STAFF ‘DO’S
After the long summer term a group of us went to Croma restaurant in Chorlton to let our hair down – a really good evening was had by all.
All employees of BOSH, WHOSH and GHOSH will be invited to join us for a Christmas meal later this term.
STANDING ORDERS
In order to keep administration time and costs to a minimum, payment by Standing Order is now compulsory.
N.B. We will continue to accept electronic payment via Voucher Schemes such as Leapfrog, BusyBees, Fideliti.
PLACES/WAITING LIST
There are currently some spare places available every day at GHOSH and WHOSH for both the Breakfast Clubs and After-school Clubs. There are also places available on Friday afternoons and most mornings at BOSH. Please let Catherine, Margaret or Anna know if you would like any extra sessions for your child(ren). Places are open to any pupil at each School from age 3.
HOLIDAY CLUBS
As many of you, know last summer we ran a holiday club throughout the 6 week summer break. Despite some poor weather and building works going on at Brookburn School, the club proved hugely popular with the local community and we had lots of positive feedback from parents and children. Along with the normal range of indoor and outdoor activities, we had visits from the Chorlton Ees rangers and Unity Art project artists. Children made costumes on an underwater theme and the project culminated in a group of us taking part in the Lantern festival parade a few Saturdays ago.
Many thanks again to Catherine and her team for all the hard work and energy they put into making the extended club a real success this summer.
HOLIDAY CLUBS THIS YEAR
XMAS THEMED PARTY DAY
We are holding an all-day party on Friday 21st December (day after children break up for Christmas holidays) at Brookburn School. Open to all children from BOSH, WHOSH and GHOSH we will have a number of fun age-range related Xmas activities for the children to participate in (a leaflet will be sent out nearer the time). Please ask your Play manager for an application form/more details.
We are also running holiday clubs during EVERY forthcoming holiday period in 2008 (half terms and major holidays). Each holiday club will be managed by one of our Play managers and staffed by current play workers.
Costs: £17.50 per 1st child for full day (8.30am to 5.30pm) and £15.00 per sibling. If you book for 4 days in a week, you will get the 5th day FREE. (Half-days are available, subject to availability, costing £10.00). Snacks, drinks and all activities are free. Please bring a packed lunch.

N.B Please remember to always notify your Play manager if a child is not going to be attending breakfast or after school club for any reason or if somebody unknown will be collecting your child.
Explanation of Bills
There seems to be some confusion as to how bills are calculated and how payments should be set up. This is a brief explanation to help clarify it all:
Statements are produced every 4-8 weeks. These will be left with the Play manager and those not collected will be posted. The statement will show two types of charge – one for your regular booked places and one will be for any ‘extra’ charges (e.g. for Late Pickups; Extra Days; Late Booking Fees, etc.). It will also show all the payments that we have received off you
by the date the statement was produced.
When you are sent a template standing order form, this is an estimate of your monthly charges. It is up to you to set this to the correct level to ensure that you are keeping on top of your balance and that it is cleared by the end of August each year. BOSH cannot change the amount of your standing order for you, this must be done by you. You are not charged for holidays, teacher days or bank holidays.
N.B. When making electronic payments by BACS or an eVoucher scheme, please ensure that your unique reference number is used as
this is how we track your payments. Without this, it can be very difficult to see who has made a particular payment.
