Job Description
In 2010, the former President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva called on young, patriotic citizens with international education and experience to join the new government and to take a more active role in the political process. Directly addressing this request, American Councils and the U.S. Embassy created the FLEX Exchanges to Internships program. Since the program’s start, approximately 60 FLEX alumni have had a chance to gain real experience in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government over the past three years.
Finalists will be assigned to intern within a government body for 3-months (March-May 2017). Interns will work approximately 15 hours/week, receive a monthly stipend, and will be awarded certificates upon completion. Every effort will be made to accommodate interns’ university schedules. Interns will be expected to complete monthly and final reports and to work in cooperation with representatives from their ministry to develop a joint small grant project.
Duties within the internship will be determined on the basis of student’s placement and in discussion with the office within which they are placed. Interns’ professional goals, university specialization, and government needs will be taken into consideration during the placement process. Internship placement is completed in close collaboration with representatives of each participating Kyrgyz government institution.
