Fibrous Proteins

• provide protection and mechanical support
• have limited amino acid composition
• usually have multiple copies of a defined sequence repeat
• insoluble and form fibers or filaments
• often (though not always) extensively cross-linked

• the most abundant protein in mammals
• forms a large part of the organic matrix for bone formation.
• strengthens tendons, ligaments, and skin.
• sheaths muscle tissue.
• adhesion protein in the extracellular matrix.
• makes a fun and tasty dessert!
