SPECIESOF
PUCCINIA
ON APIACEAE IN UGAM-CHATKAL AND
ZAAMIN NATIONAL NATURE PARKS, UZBEKISTAN

The genus
Puccinia
is largest in the Pucciniales, Basidiomycota with more than
4000 species [Cummins and Hiratsuka: 2003]. Species of
Puccinia
occur on a wide
range of plant hosts throughout the world and it is considered the most economically
destructive genus of biotrophic fungi.
Puccinia
is the most important genus of rusts
on various plant families because of the number of species of economic importance.
Among the rust species that attack herbal plants from Apiaceae in
Uzbekistan.Apiaceae, also called Umbelliferae, the parsley family, in the order
Apiales, comprising 446 genera and 3540 species, which distributed throughout a
wide variety of habitats, principally in the north temperate regions of the world
[Mabberley: 1997]. Several Apiaceae species from
Angelica
,
Bunium
,
Conium
,
Bupleurum
,
Ferula
,
Heracleum
,
Prangos
have long been used as herbal and folk
remedies in Uzbekistan.
One hundred forty-six species of
Puccinia
have been reported from Uzbekistan
[Ramazanova et al.: 1986], however, research on
Puccinia
species diversity and
diseases caused by them, in particular, is insufficient most of the areas of Uzbekistan,
explaining much more scarcity of research study on rusts in other areas such as two
nature parks of Ugam-Chatkal and Zaamin [Gafforov et al: 2016]. Extensive field
surveys and collecting trips are therefore required for a better understanding of the
rust fungal species and diseases of this region. The aim of this study is to revise
species of
Puccinia
on Apiaceae in National nature parks.
A total of 15 species of
Puccinia
have been identified and reported from study
