Newsletter Autumn - Advent 2015
Dear Members and Friends of Newcastle United:
God’s will is not an itinerary. It’s an attitude.” Andrew Dhuse.
Our calendar below, that takes us through Autumn to Advent, could look like a to-do list for a lot of folks who are busy in our church. Autumn itself is a ‘busy’ time for the church. Tick that Sunday off. One more thing done. On to the next.

To some of us, our calendar looks more like a travel itinerary. It’s a long way through Autumn; and Advent is something we are ‘supposed’ to see as a spiritual journey, one more stage of our pilgrimage, walking again to Bethlehem.

On that pilgrimage, we are always feeling called to discern: where we are at in our life; where we feel called to go; where we feel the leading of God as a gentle nudging or prodding Spirit.

But look at that quote at the top.

We might see life as step-by-step, a dutiful ticking- off of all the been-there, done-that boxes.

But –new every morning is the love – as the hymn says.

Faith is attitude made transcendent. Faith ‘gives us a second opinion on what life means.’ Faith says: Life is a gift – one to be shared. So faith affirms that the attitude is gratitude. That is a good way forward: Saying thanks everyday opens new opportunities to live God’s way.

One giant heartfelt THANKS! is all I have room for here: to each of you; and to the One in whom we have shared our journey these many years.

May each of you continue to journey with faith, with hope, with love – and of course, with thanks.

Many blessings!

- Rev. Jim

Hi Everyone – welcome to all our young people and their families.

Nursery care for our youngest is in a safe, well equipped nursery. Paige is our care giver and she has many resources to introduce little ones to our faith.

We are excited to share our new FIM curriculum – “Holy Moly!” for K-grade 4 and “Connect!” for grades 5 & 6. These programmes feature age-specific fun gathering activities, video clips, discussions and hands-on activities to help each of us, with our different learning abilities, understand the many stories, lessons and people we meet in the Bible.

“re:form!” for teens – where we meet our OT and NT ancestors through fun opening activities, video clips, historical and cultural background information, in-depth scripture discussions on how our faith connects with and strengthens our daily lives.

We welcome any child who wants to join us in exploring our faith and the Word. Your friends are welcome too!

Lorna McSwan, Co-ordinator
Events and Opportunities at Newcastle United:
The Choir – under the direction of Music Director Joanne McLennan, practices Thursdays from 7:00-9:00PM. September to mid-May. We always have room for more! If you would like to join in this ministry, speak to Joanne.
United Church Women – our very active group meets the second Monday of each month except July and August. At these meetings, you could be learning from knowledgeable guest speakers or learning a new skill. Call the church 905 987 4515 to find out about up-coming meetings.
Friendship Circle – we are a caring group of women who get together, usually monthly, to have a good chat and warm beverage at Kate’s Place in the Sears outlet store. Dates and time are published in our church bulletin.
