KONSTANTINE GAMSAKHURDIA ABOUT EXPRESSIONISM AND ITS SIGNS IN THE NOVEL “DIDOSTATIS MARJVENA”
Expressionism became one of the avant-garde courses in the XX century, which was fully denied by the social realism. The greatest Georgian writer Konstantine Gamsakhurdia had to work in such conditions, who in spite of prohibition tries to discuss the expressionism in his essays and literary-critical letters. The aim of the work is to systemize the writer’s letters and essays, in which he discusses the expressionism. We tried to change the stereotype blick about the novel “Didostatis Marjvena”, which has been discussed as a historical novel. We analyzed the author’s texts, critical letters around this issue and used the information gained from the internet. That period, when the social realism was in its peak, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia discusses the expressionism in his essays and critical letters, which are of a program style. It became a basis of his world outline, it determined the literary originality. The synthesis of the national literary traditions and European novelty was realized in his creative works. The positive result of the globalization was – enriching people and society by the spiritual values created by others in the limited space created by the socialistic regime. By discussing the expressionism and by taking into consideration the writer’s point of view, we tried to present the novel “Didostatis Marjvena”, considered as a historical one, in a new manner and underline the novelty in it.
