Net profit on the sale of investments decreased substantially from Rs. 10,175.30 million in fiscal 2004 to Rs. 5,351.50
million in fiscal 2005. This was due to a reversal in the interest rate cycle in the latter half of the fiscal 2005, negatively
impacting volumes in the market and our ability to sell our investments profitably. Net profit from foreign exchange
transactions increased from Rs. 1,695.62 million in fiscal 2004 to Rs. 1,932.69 million in fiscal 2005, mainly due to
increased business activity in this area.
Our miscellaneous income includes incidental income from services charges, minimum balance charges, up front-fees
and other account keeping fees and recovery of bad debts previously written off. Our miscellaneous income increased by
22.14% from Rs. 1,758.83 million in fiscal 2004 to Rs. 2,148.24 million in fiscal 2005. This was mainly due to a Rs.
137.34 million increase in recovery of bad debts previously written off as well as a Rs. 249.97 million increase in revenue
from various service charges .
Operating Expenses
Total operating expenses increased from Rs. 18,053.03 million in fiscal 2004 to Rs. 19,821.86 million in fiscal 2005. As
a percentage of our total income, operating expenses increased to 25.62% in fiscal 2005 compared with 22.95% in fiscal
