Attendees: Alan Canonico, Marie Cofrode, Diana Herres, Cathy Linhart, Charlie Rossi, Debbie Rossi
The meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm.
Minutes of the June meeting were accepted as read.
Treasurer’s report – Tony will be back after October 14. Debbie reported that we have close to $1000 in memorial donations. She would like to earmark the donations to make outdoor improvements. Also, she’d like to see the money we raise from the raffles also go for these improvements. For the sunset dinner raffle, we will earmark 200 tickets; the tickets will include name, address and phone number. We’ll start selling the tickets at the September dance, continue selling them until the December 14 dance and we’ll have the drawing at that dance. We may have people go from table to table to sell the raffle tickets rather than having someone sit at a table.
Debbie found a magician whose upfront cost is $200. We decided to try to schedule him for either Friday, November 1 or Saturday, November 2. We can have wine, beer, and soda available for a donation. We’ll serve hors d’ouerves; adult tickets will be $15. And children tickets will be $5.00 up to 12 years of age.
Debbie invited to board to the Venice Moose Lodge next Tuesday to see how they conduct their trivia night. Dinner is pasta night for $7.00 until 7:30 pm at which time the trivia game begins. We were thinking of doing something like this once a month with dinner. Debbie said 2 guys ask the questions and have the answers. Marie suggested that at the end of the session, the tables could swap results to get the results.
The South Venice Civic Center is closing January 1. The South Venice Garden Club Monday meets on Mondays once a month from 11 am to 3 pm. There are approximately 40 people in the meeting. They are considering other locations, but we have the advantage of being in South Venice. We decided $80 would be a fair price. If they want catering, they can talk to Gary. One Saturday morning next year, they would want to use the club for a plant sale.
Jerry Cashion joined this summer; he’s a member of the Venice Sailing Squadron. They may be interesting in renting the club for one evening a month, probably on Wednesdays from 5 pm – 9 pm. Their attendance fluctuates from 20 to 60 people. We would also charge them $80/month.
Debbie is going to find out more about other groups that meet at the Civic Center; we know there is a church that meets there on Sundays.
There was a problem with some people not receiving the Yacht Yarns via e-mail. Marie mailed hard copies to those who contacted her.
Debbie will also follow up with regarding grants for beach improvements.
Alan made a motion to accept the application of George Faketty and Charlie seconded it. He was unanimously voted as a new member.
941-952-3091 Alan’s new phone number.
Charlie had the coils cleaned in the air conditioning units and had the freezer in the refrigerator changed to work as a refrigerator.
Bill and Charlie worked on the breakers, and removed the doors. Marie and Cathy cleaned the closet off the kitchen, and Debbie cleaned Charlotte’s closet.
The board unanimously agreed to send flowers to Charlotte Foster for her 106th birthday.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Linhart
