Lesson “Are you ready to order?”

The aim of the lesson:
Educational: - to learn basic food vocabulary; - to ask and say how to order food
Developing: - to enable pupils to ask and say how to order and understand the menu
Socio-cultural: - to raise awareness of ways of ordering, asking and saying how to order food

Learning outcomes: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - understand the food types, use a question for asking what somebody would like and say what they want to order
Type of the lesson: non-standard, mixed
Method of the lesson: group work, pair work, individual work
Equipment: Textbook, the DVD of the book

The Procedure of the lesson:

  1. Organizing moment: - Greeting.

  1. Pre-Activity

Activity 1 Watch and answer
Objective: to engage pupils, and let them predict
Ask your pupils to take notes of new words and phrases related to odering foods while they are watching the video. After watching, ask them some questions about the video.



  1. Main Part

Activity 2 Match
STEP 1: Explain that they have to match the word with its picture. Don’t say them the translation of the new words just let them predict and do the known words firstly and then unknown words.
STEP 2: Practice their pronounciation.
STEP3: Play word chain using new words


Activity 3 Listening
Objective: to enable pupils understand oral speech and spoken phrases
They should listen 2 times and do 2 exercises which are True/False and Gap fill. Before listening ask them to underline key words. As an example, help them to mark the key word of the first sentence.
After completing, explain the phrases that they can use at the restaurant to oder food and let them make some simple examples using them.



  1. Post-activity

Activity 4 Role play
Objective: to do physical activity and use new phrases and use menu understanding them.
Divide your students into small groups with at least 2 or 3 pupils and explain them that now they imagine that they are at restaurant and one of them waiter and other is customers. Ask them make a conversation using the learned phrases and menu.
Set a table and chairs like at restaurant in oder to create real atmosphere.
Homework:

  1. Making 5 short dialogs

  2. Learning new words

  3. Listening dictation
