a) Single out the main topics of the text and give a heading to each of them
b) Work in a small group. Discuss the tips given to parents who are parenting 
teenagers. Do you agree with all of the tips? What other tips for parents would 
you like to add?


c) In the headline the words teenagers and parents are opposed to each other, 
they are contextual antonyms. How is the opposition revealed in the text?
d) Write answers to the questions: 
1) What adjectives are used to describe teenagers in the text? Add 
some adjectives of your own to the list. 2) Why do parents often dis-
like new music trends? 3) Why is being overprotective harmful for 
teenagers? 4) How do some teenagers express their curiosity? 5) Why 
do teenagers change their mind easily?
e) Find examples of metaphorical expressions and idioms which are used in 
the text. Do we have similar metaphors in Russian?
9. Below are some quotations dealing with children. Choose one of them and 
write a story (200 -230 words) for a magazine. Use a quotation as a title

10. Below are some proverbs dealing with children. a) Choose an experience 
in your life or the life of a person you know that illustrates one of the proverbs. 
Think about the verb forms you want to use
1. He that has no children knows not what love is.
2. Children are certain cares, but uncertain comforts.
3. Children pick up words as pigeons peas, and utter them again 
as God shall please.
4. There’s only one pretty child in the world, and every mother 
has it.
5. Naughty boys sometimes make good men.
