Approaches to language teaching

Teacher introduces the course 
Aims 
_ to acquaint students with the history of changes in teaching approaches and methods; 
_ to develop students’ ability to differentiate between the purposes, strengths and weaknesses of different 
approaches to teaching English. 
Objectives 
By the end of the course students will be able to: 
_ demonstrate a systematic understanding and critical awareness of the history and development of 
English teaching approaches and methods; 
_ demonstrate an understanding and awareness of goals of, principles and teaching/learning processes in 
different approaches to teaching English; 
_ critically evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to their own future teaching contexts.
