The Field Trip

Elise got up early in the morning to pack her lunch. She was going on a field trip today, and she could hardly wait. The plan was to go and visit the Great Salt Lake. This lake had no outlet, and was filled with salt. Elise was fascinated by the idea and couldn’t wait to see a salty lake.

The bus trip seemed to take forever. They had packed at least 90 students and adults on the bus. The winding curves of the canyon made this bus trip even more difficult than usual. This was almost too much.

At last the bus was driving across the causeway onto Antelope Island. Elise waited impatiently, tapping her foot as she waited for the students to unload. With a plastic container in hand, Elise headed towards the Salt Lake. Her first scoop of water produced plenty of brine shrimp.

“Yes,” thought Elise. “This is the life; exploring and discovering things in nature.”

Just then, Elise’s friend Brooklyn came running up to her. She was asking Elise at the top of her lungs if she had found any brine shrimp yet. Just before she reached Elise, she tripped and fell right into her. The two girls tumbled into the water.

“Gack!” Elise came up sputtering. “Everything is ruined!”

“Oh, no it’s not,” said Brooklyn. “I just found some brine shrimp.” “You did? Where?” asked Elise.

“On your head!” giggled Brooklyn, and the girls fell back into the water.
