Ancient and Unique Uzbekistan: The Fergana Region I

The Sharaf Rashidov Museum was opened in his native Jizzakh region in connection with his 75th anniversary on November 6, 1992. The area of the museum’s exhibition halls is -170.4 sq. M. The total number of exhibits is 5185. There are 4473 items in the main fund, and 712 in the auxiliary fund.

This man was known in his country as an outstanding party leader and as a writer. The economic development of the region during the period of his service is associated with Rashidov’s name.

The Zaamin District Historical Museum was opened on May 18, 1994, on the occasion of the International Day of Museums. Its exhibition area is 100 square meters.

Under the auspices of the regional inspectorate for the protection of cultural and heritage monuments, the museum building was overhauled, and the exhibition hall was equipped in accordance with modern requirements. Scientists plan to replenish the museum with new archaeological finds by participating in the excavation of ancient monuments in the Zaamin district.

Among the exhibits of the museum are pottery of the 3rd, 5th, and 8th centuries, copper and silver coins, parts of military weapons, agricultural tools, lithographs, jewelry, and handicrafts.

On September 10, 1986, the Jizzakh Regional Museum of Local Lore was established.

On December 11, 2017, the Jizzakh Regional Museum of Local Lore was closed, and on its basis, the State Museum of History and Culture of the Jizzakh Region was created. The number of exhibits in the museum is 23286 items.

It includes the Jizzakh Regional Historical and Cultural Museum, a branch of the Sharaf Rashidov Memorial Museum, a branch of the Khamid Olimjon and Zulfiya Museum, and a branch of the Zamin District Historical Museum.

The museum displays a number of unique historical exhibits, including documents, works of art, ceramic and copper products, weapons, manuscripts, as well as national costumes of the Uzbek people.
