Introduction
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on measures to improve the system of teaching foreign languages on May 6. Several areas of knowledge are determined every year in Uzbekistan, the development of which is given priority attention. This year physics and foreign languages have become such areas. “The time has come to create in Uzbekistan a new system of teaching foreign languages, which will become a solid foundation for the future. Since we set ourselves the goal of building a competitive state, from now on, graduates of schools, lyceums, colleges, and universities must be fluent in at least two foreign languages. This strict requirement should become the main criterion for the work of the head of each education institution,”1 Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
This robot is devoted to the analysis of two short stories "The Mole" by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Poe's Oval Portrait. The relevance of our work lies in the fact that we tried to interpret romanticism in general on the basis of two specific works of late romantics, because there are not many scientific works on this topic in Russian literary criticism.2
The purpose of our research work is to trace, using the material of two works of American romantic prose, exactly how traditional romantic themes, plots and images are realized in practice through the prism of the author's vision.
To achieve our goal, an attempt was made to solve the following tasks:
Familiarize yourself with research literature on European and American romanticism;
To identify and establish a common foundation - the poetics and aesthetics of romanticism, to which Nathaniel belongs Hawthorne and Edgar Poe;
Get acquainted with the biography of writers in order to determine the place of authors in American literature of the 19th century;
To study the specifics of the relationship between writers;
Determine the criteria, levels of the text, according to which a comparative analysis of works will be carried out;
To carry out a comparative analysis of the short stories "The Mole" and "The Oval Portrait";
Determine what Nathaniel 's innovation is Hawthorne and Edgar Poe.
Our scientific hypothesis is that the general provisions of the poetics and aesthetics of romanticism should differ from the individual principles of each of the authors presented.
In our work, we use the following methods of literary research: biographical, structural, cultural-historical, comparative, method of motive analysis and method of intertextual analysis.
Structure of the work: In the theoretical part, we will get acquainted with the main provisions of European and American romanticism; with a biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Poe, with the specifics of the relationship, we will also determine their place in literature, consider the history of the creation of two works.
In the practical part of the work, we will analyze the short stories presented at the following levels: chronotope , the system of images of the main characters, the plot-compositional level and the level of motives.
In conclusion, we will present the conclusions that we came to in the course of the study and try to show exactly how traditional romantic themes, plots and images are realized in practice through the prism of the author's vision.
