Charity means willingness to help others. Helping those who are really in need is a rare and good quality indeed. People are often reluctant to help other. They care only for themselves or their nearest and dearest. They are selfish people who do not know what charity is. There are others who spend huge sums of money on charitable institutions but pay no attention to their poor relatives or near ones. They want to impress others by donating large sums, but have no heart for those who really suffer. This is selfishness. They act on selfish motives. A truly charitable person should help those who are actually in need. He should be willing to help a needy man whether he is a relative or not. To possess such an unselfish loving heart, one should first learn to love his kith and kin. But it should also be noted that such a love should not confine itself to family circle. The right way to cultivate the charitable habit is to start living one’s kith and kin and gradually extend that live to those out asked the family. Such a person can love and sympathize with all those who deserve it. Only that sort of mentality can be called really charitable.
Charity begins at home, is a term most people hear from their family and friends early on in life. When we pass down something we can’t use, either within our family or even to our neighbor, that’s a form of charity. When a man walks up to a homeless man and gives him money or food that considered charity. But is it really? When we look at the word charity, it suggests that you have not fulfilled your responsibility to make someone feel good until you have given something from your heart, something of meaning that will make this person feel better, not just so u can feel better. Charity is supposed to be about giving of something because you have a bond with the world. So, charity is an emotional connection to the world, our community our neighborhood and our family. Our society tend to think of charity as something we have to do, and we won’t be happy until we have done something for someone who can’t probably ever repay you. If you’re not a charitable person, just the word charity implies in its self that you’re not a good man or woman. For me, I believe in the terminology of Charity begins at home, as my parents would always say to us as children, that “we don’t have much but if someone else was in need, we need to do our best to help them”. Those messages as a young man still ring true today.
If you’re a religious or even a spiritual person, you know that the words God spoke at the Sermon on the Mount, where he instructs us to be of good will and be a good giver was all about charity. "Be careful that you don't do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven”. Also,“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:11). Even good deeds can be done for the wrong reasons. This is the first instance of charity that is imposed on any human being.
From the beginning time we were taught to be charitable, but charity for most people, if they think about charity at all, think that people grow up being charitable. Many well to do families give to charity, but sense we don’t feel it personally we tend to not believe in charity. The way you were brought up by your parents or by the way they see life through the things in the media can also change how you feel about charity. The cold-hearted truth is that many attitudes of the rich and well to do, along with their “me and mine first” attitudes seem to cut through all forms of charity that we need in this world today. Charity is one of those unpleasant words that people use to relieve their guilt about never actually being charitable. But they are, of course, using the word "charity" in the sense that charity is for giving money or aid to poor people. Charity should be more of a state of mind, a mindset of kindness and service. The point is that when people first started using the term "charity begins at home”, the sole purpose was to get across that being a giving and loving person in the home, will lead to being a loving person out in our communities. Charity has done many great things around the world like help foreign countries get clean water. These charitable acts have saved 134,000 people in Malawi and many more in Rwanda. This act of charity should be used as an instruction book on how to be more generous, which is kind of the opposite of the way it's used today. "Charity begins at home" for most is interpreted to mean that it ends there.
It is an old saying which holds good in every sphere of life, It means that a person’s first duty is to help the members of his own family. Any act of goodness can be in the right direction only if it spreads goodness all around, but a good act must be started from one’s own environment. Everybody should do good to his family members first. Charity to others at the cost of starvation at home cannot be appreciated.
If a man ignores his family members and does good to others, he is most likely to be an object of ridicule. The family members are the first charge on one’s resources.
If somebody is in a position to do some good or to extend some help or assistance—monetary or otherwise—to others, he must see to it that the members of his family are not left in deprivation. It is only after the needs of the members of the family are fully met, the help and assistance may be distributed among others.
Here, too, there is a comparative priority—relations, friends, community circle and so on and so forth. If we take the case of social reform, a man should first try to introduce reform in his own family. Instead, if without reforming his own family, he tries to reform others, people will not listen to him.
He would rather end up in failure. It does not carry any weight if a chain smoker advises others to give up smoking while he himself does not leave the same.
It is better if one presents his Own example. Philanthropists donate money to educational institutions, hospitals and orphanages. But before doing so, they must try to satisfy the needs of their family, relatives, friends and com-nunlty. A doctor must attened to the health problems of his own (tolly members before extending medical advice or assistance to ‘Charity begins at Home’ also means that unless a person is to his own family members, he cannot be expected to be good •Others.
The reasons are obvious. Family is the core of one’s i is the immediate environment. The first responsibility of II towards his family. A man is alway more sincere to his lily than to any other person. A normal man cannot over-_ Ignore the family ties and responsibilities. If somebody ‘ Uself an exception, he is likely to be mocked at or looked by others. acts must have their beginnings from one’s own or environment. Nobody cleans other’s house before his own. Before lighting a candle in the temple Xhis own house. Before feeding others one does mily members. For all the good acts one’s family One cannot rather do ood things to others in If one ignore one’s own family in that regard. jtoo 11 equally applicable in the international field. Mil primary responsibility for its own people. It can do good to the whole world only after it has met the requirements of its own people. A country committed to the removal of povery in the world must first try to remove poverty of his own people. Beginning of disarmament must be made by the country itself before making a plea for world disarmament. It is no gain to call upon the people of the world to abjure war, if the country or the leader making this plea does not believe in peace.
Charity is quite popular nowadays. People have become more open and kind-hearted. On the whole, charity means voluntary giving of help to those who are in need. Charitable giving can include the act of giving money, goods, time, attention and kindness to the unfortunate. Most forms of charity mean providing basic items of necessity, such as food, water, clothing, shelter, healthcare and else.

There are so many charitable organizations in the world today. They allow people to donate either directly or online, through websites. Charitable organizations also include orphanages, food banks, religious institutes and hospitals for the poor. Donating things you don’t use anymore is one of the forms of charity. Not everyone is lucky enough to have lots of toys or warm clothes for winter. Sometimes people simply can’t find the job to earn enough money. Others are sick, disabled or elderly and can’t get around on their own. These are the cases when charity helps.
|
If everyone made charity a part of their life and helped those who are in need, the world would become a better place to live. Mother Teresa once said: “To truly give charity, you must be free of selfishness!” And, it’s true. The acts of charity come in many different forms. It you have ever helped to plant a garden or gave your jar of coins to someone who needs it more than you, then you already know what charity is.
|
However, true charity doesn’t only mean giving out money and unwanted items to others. True charity starts with a kind word given by you to someone on a bad day, with a sincere smile and with love.
