Introduction
Modern English is one of the Germanic languages (West Germanic group). It is native to 410 million people, it is owned by at least 1 billion people. It is the state language of Great Britain, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Ireland (in Canada along with French, in Ireland with Irish, in Malta with Maltese), one of the official languages of India (temporarily) and 15 states of Africa ( South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, etc.). One of the official and working languages of the UN.
The English language originates from the language of the ancient Germanic tribes (Angles, Saxons and Jutes), who migrated from the continent in the 5th-6th centuries. in Celtic-populated Britain.
"Monuments of the Old English language" is one of the interesting and relevant topics in the study of the history of the English language. Without studying the history of the language, it is hardly possible to imagine where this or that word came from, what its roots are, why people speak or write in this way and not otherwise. Therefore, this topic attracted people many years ago and still attracts. The study of Old English monuments is very important for studying the history of the language.1
Old English written monuments are a unique means of transmitting information, as well as an important link in the evolution of the language. The written monuments of the Old English period are a kind of starting point for the history of English writing.
The relevance of the work is due to the fact that knowledge of the features of the language in the early stages of its development allows us to trace the development of the language and better understand some of the features of the modern language.
The purpose of the study of this course work is to study the characteristic features of the written monuments of the Old English period.
Tasks:

  1. identify the characteristic features of the formation of the English language

  2. to identify the features of the literary language in the Old English period;

  3. explore passages in Old English poetry and prose.

The object of the work is the features of Old English written monuments.
The subject of the work is Old English written monuments.
The selection of material was carried out by a complex sampling method based on semantic-morphological analysis. An analysis was made of the special literature of well-known linguist authors, such as A.I. Smirnitsky and B.A. Ilyish, and also the necessary information from Britannica and David Crystal's encyclopedia.
The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that this topic, despite its study, remains interesting and informative for the future translator, in view of the fact that this issue includes a lot of linguistic, regional, geographical, and historical material. And starting to write my work, I had to study a lot of scientific and journalistic articles on the history, linguistics and geography of England. And it was by combining the history of England with linguistic features that I tried to consider, analyze and describe various written monuments.
This work is of practical importance , since in the profession of a translator, philologist, teacher of a foreign language, we are constantly faced with the problems of writing, which means that we must competently understand them. The results of the work can be used to conduct theoretical courses on learning English.
Working hypothesis: If we introduce several lessons into the school or university program in English to get acquainted with the history of the origin of the language and the features of Old English written monuments, historical events related to the origin and existence of these monuments, then I think that schoolchildren, as well as students, will be much clearer and more interesting is the country whose language they are learning. I would like to read more literature on the history of England, and as a result, it is better to know the way of life, customs, culture and love this country.
The course work consists of an introduction, 5 chapters, a conclusion and a list of references.
