Text types to be included


I. e-mail, internet web pages
II. references sources (book or computer form) dictionaries, grammars,encyclopaedias
III. newspapers and magazine articles
IV. handbooks, guidebooks, textbooks
V. extracts from novels, short stories, poems, limericks, rhymes
VI. letters, postcards; advertisements
VII. instructions, regulations, signs, etc.
VIII. statistics, diagrams, timetables, maps, etc.
IX. telephone and other directories
X. specialist articles on law, economics, mathematics, etc.



READING: YEAR I


Texts should include some authentic or semi-authentic texts.
Texts will be half a page long.
There should be 5-10 new words or phrases per text.


Topics will include: daily life (eg. personal information, family, jobs, dates), daily routines, clothes, food, shopping, housing, hobbies, weather, sports, culture and traditions.


Reading 1: Developing reading skills. Using the text to practise reading skills eg. reading for information
Reading 2: Developing general language skills. The text is the basis for developing:
pronunciation;
grammar structures;
vocabulary ;
translation skills;
dictionary skills;
writing (for consolidation of structures).


READING : YEAR II


Texts should include mostly authentic or semi-authentic texts.
Texts will be a page long.
There should be 7-12 new words or phrases per text.


Topics will include: problems of youth, nature, history, geography,
literature, travelling, entertainment and art (including cinema, theatre, video, internetetc.)education, health, neighbours, guests, furniture, illness, new developments in science, business, industry,economics and law.
