Set up as a partnership between the United 

States of America and Uzbekistan,  

the Window on America functions as a hub 

for activities, opening its doors to Uzbek 

youth looking to improve their English and 

learn about U.S. culture, history and values. 

Located on the fourth floor of Alisher Navoi 

National Library, the “Window on America” 

offers a variety of educational and cultural 

programs, as well as access to a vast  

collection of print and digital English  

language recourses.

22 students from across Uzbekistan competed in 

the 3

rd

 annual National Spelling Bee Competition, 

sponsored by the U.S. Embassy,  at the National 

Library in Tashkent. This year over 140 students 

from across the country competed in local bees, 

with two winners from each local bee competing 

in the national bee. The program received a  

significant boost from English Language Fellows 

and English Language Teaching Assistants in the 

regions, who acted as coaches for their students 

and organizers at the local level.  The overall 

champion was Munavarkhon Khudoyberdieva 

from Andijan State University.  

The three runner-ups were:  

Sadokatkhon Abdukhalilova (Andijan Machine 

Building Institute), Kuanishbay Djumamuratov 

(Karakalpak State University) and Ayzada 

Yernazarova (Karakalpak State University).   

The four winners will attend the Central Asia 

Spelling Bee, to be held in Bishkek in April. 

Congratulations to the four finalists on winning  

the National Spelling Bee Contest!

history and the modern day, read poems and 

stories about women’s issues, create projects, 

and do other multimedia activities. Girls and 

boys are welcome!
