The numbers for video rentals in the United States were the highest of all figures
throughout the six-year period and fluctuated in an upward trend. Video rentals in the US
began at around 69 million in 1997, rising slightly to around 72 in 1998. At this point, the
figure decreased slightly to around 68 million, then rose steadily for the remainder of the
period. Video rentals in the UK also increased, beginning at around 39 million per year in
1997 and rising consistently throughout the six-year period.
