9 Disclosure 

notes 

Disclosure notes are required for a variety of reasons, including: 

•

 

to explain the accounting policies used in preparing the accounts 

•

 

to explain the movement between the opening and closing balances of 

major statement of financial position items 

•

 

to show how certain balances are calculated, and 

•

 

to provide further detail/explanation to users of the financial statements, 

as necessary for the accounts to be understandable to the users. 

For this exam you do not need to know the presentation of all the relevant 

disclosure notes that support the financial statements. The notes you do need 

to know and the chapters they are explained in are as follows: 

•

 

Non-current tangible and intangible assets (Chapters 7 & 8). 

•

 

Provisions (Chapter 12). 

•

 

Events after the reporting period (this chapter), and 

•

 

Inventory (Chapter 6).
