About myself

Let me introduce myself. My full name is Rasulov Rustam. I was named after my father and I am very happy about it. I was born on May, 7, 1981 in Bukhara. I come from the family of office workers. I am an only child in the family. I work at JSC “Uztelecom” Bukhara branch, currently I am 1-st category specialist. That is why I have to work twice as hard as an ordinary workers. I'm not only doing my best at work, I'm taking a preparatory course at the University. The course lasts for six months. We have lectures and seminars three times a week: on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I come to the University at 5 p.m. and leave it at 8 p.m. The lectures on literature, social sciences and history are given in lecture rooms. The seminars are held in small groups in classrooms. We have classes of English too. During our English classes we read and translate texts, discuss books, listen to a taperecorder. At the University we learn a lot of useful and interesting things. But most of all I like the subject of my future speciality. I am always very busy, but when I am free I like to read books. My favourite writer is Ernest Hemingway. I like to go to museums and art galleries. My favourite painter is Rembrandt van Rijn.

The house of my dream

Let me tell you about the house of my dream. When you come to me, you push a big wooden front door, wiping your feet on the door-mat, and enter the hall. The floor is covered with a fitted carpet, the wallpaper is light and has a small pattern. There’s a seat and a small table near the wall and a huge mirror above it.

Then you enter the living-room. The bright full-length curtains are drawn back, and sunshine fills the room. The living-room suite, consisting of a sideboard, a bookcase, a sofa, an elegant coffee table and three armchairs, is arranged around three walls. There’s a video system near the window.

On the ground floor there’s also a kitchen and a bathroom. The kitchen is a very large room with a big window. There is a gas cooker with a hood, two wall-cupboards and a sink unit there. Near the opposite wall there is a dishwasher, a refrigerator and a table.

Let’s go upstairs and have a look at the bedroom. This is a very cosy and warm room. The bedroom suite consists of a bed, two bedside tables and a wardrobe. The window overlooks the back yard. In my house there is also a terrace, a garage and a garden and so many other things I’d like to have; at least, in my dream house.

Independace day of Uzbekistan

ndependence Day of Uzbekistan, held on September 1, is the main national holiday and the official day off.

The Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was declared in September 1, 1991 after a special session of the Supreme Council of the Republic.

In each region in Uzbekistan, a festive program is written in honor of the Independence Day. These are the performances of original folklore groups and sports battles, and variety shows, and noisy fairs of folk craftsmen. And, of course, what a holiday without food! Festive pilaf on this day is the central dish of any dastarkhan (table), followed by family, colleagues, neighbors and friends. In various districts of the country in honor of the Uzbekistan Independence Day, special exhibitions on the history, culture of the country and flower festivals are opened.

In Tashkent the celebration is prepared in advance, because the festive show is so spectacular and large that it is simply breathtaking. It involves hundreds of extras, musicians, dance groups, the brightest stars of the stage and cinema. And in the evening in honor of the 1st of September - Independence Day of Uzbekistan a grandiose festive salute flies over the square.

One of the places for the occasion of the Independence Day of Uzbekistan is also the National Park in Tashkent named after Alisher Navoi. There are festive parades and events; concerts and performances of local stars are organized.

The city I was born

Bukhara is one of the most ancient cities of Uzbekistan, situated on a sacred hill, the place where sacrifices were made by fire-worshippers in springtime. This city was mentioned in a holy book "Avesto". Bukhara city is supposed to be founded in the 13th cent. B.C. during the reign of Siyavushids who came to power 980 years before Alexander the Great. The name of Bukhara originates from the word "vihara" which means "monastery" in Sanskrit. The city was once a large commercial center on the Great Silk Road.

Bukhara lies west of Samarkand and was once a center of learning renowned throughout the Islamic world. It is the hometown of the great Sheikh Bakhouddin Nakshbandi. He was a central figure in the development of the mystical Sufi approach to philosophy, religion and Islam. In Bukhara there are more than 350 mosques and 100 religious colleges. Its fortunes waxed and waned through succeeding empires until it became one of the great Central Asian Khanates in the 17th century.

Bukhara with more than 140 architectural monuments is a "town museum" dating back to the Middle Ages. 2,300 years later, ensembles like Poi-Kalyan, Ismail Samani Mausoleum, Ark, Lyabi-Khauz are attracting a lot of attention. The city consists of narrow streets, green parks and gardens, historical and architectural monuments belong to the different epochs, but locate very close to each other.
