education for 19 BA programs and 17 MA specializations in the fields of veterinary, animal sciences,
biotechnology, food processing and forage plants. SamVMI has 6 faculties, 23 academic departments.
Number of students about 5300 with about 500 faculty members.
The Institute has six faculties which are focused on a broad spectrum of animal sciences, veterinary
medicine and public health, biotechnology, agriculture, food technology sciences and other
complementary streams such as economics and teacher training.
Activities implemented
It was analysed status-quo of internships in Uzbekistan. Had been developed necessary
documentation about internship placements, agreements, rules of farm data collection, selection tutors,
preparing report and
evaluation. Besides, it was popularised among teachers’ staff modern teaching
methods of EU universities, selected best practices.
EU experts had instructed faculty staff by using of distance learning methods, developing of
competence-based curricula, alignment of learning outcomes to professional skills demanded by
agricultural sector and farm facilities performance. From a pedagogic prospective, faculty staff learnt as
well as how to apply teaching materials that vocationally oriented .
During the seco
nd and third year of project, 6 student mobility’s had been carry out in order they
participate in internships in farms. Simultaneously, there were organized a two-week practical training
program for 6 teachers which had accompanied students and observe farm management practices in
Europe. The development of internship schemes increased the cooperation between agricultural
enterprises and farm industry. Certificates of participation at international internships provided to the
students considered as part of the recognition in their continuous professional career.
The modernisation of the curricula and internship schemes based on the results of the survey and
comparative analysis of the current state of the HE in the farm management sciences Uzbek partner
universities involved as well as on the needs and gaps identified there together with the taking into account
the EU educational standards, the outlined EU good practices for modern teaching and learning practice
based approaches, and in line with EU expertise in development of modern educational environments.
All the above aiming at improvement of the career development of the direct project beneficiaries.
Training materials and internships adequately used will contribute to deliver the following capabilities
and attributes for both students (knowledge about the agricultural management profession, transferable
management skills like initiative and ability for independent work) and for teachers (ability to integrate
theory with practice, knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation). The impact for farmers
is to operate and enhance competences in safe work practices and knowledge of relevant occupational
health and safety policies and reinforce competence in discipline/ profession knowledge and skills that
respond to their needs.
The development of online services (courses via MOOCs) provides access also to farmers and
agribusinesses in the surrounding regions of SamVMI. This enables operators in agriculture, who have
no possibility to sign up for studies in higher education, to acquire new and additional knowledge on
farming and farm business. The offer of quantitative farm data for comparisons and on-farm planning to
regions with difficult access to libraries or governmental sources becomes possible due to the introduced
data collections during student placement. More intensive and frequent contacts between SamVMI and
stakeholders result from the improved organization of student placements. The new organization
intensifies formalized relations between farmers and agribusinesses and SamVMI and extends the circle
of involved enterprises.
New activities are expected to evolve from the sequential installation of the database on farm data.
Such expected activities include the increase of extension by university staff for farms on request as well
as initiatives for close communication and exchange between the actors in the agricultural sector.
The project contributes to life-long learning by the provision of online courses (MOOCs). The
relevant techniques were learned, shared and applied during the project. The project provided also the
basis for open courses, which are simultaneously accessible for non-traditional and part time learners
