Dear UIL Class 6A Region I Participants:


On behalf of our University President, Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, I want to welcome you to The University of Texas at Arlington for the 2016 UIL Class 6A Region I Spring Sports Championships. We feel privileged and grateful for the opportunity to host these important and prestigious events. We are confident that we will be able to provide the setting for your students to excel in their competitions.
Please use this information handbook, which can also be found online on our UT Arlington Athletics website- www.utamavs.com, as a guide for these UIL competitions. This handbook has been prepared to provide you with helpful information concerning all aspects of the Class 6A Region I Boys and Girls Tennis Tournament competition. Please direct questions to your district representatives listed on the following pages. If your district representative cannot help you, please do not hesitate to contact the UT Arlington UIL office at (817) 272-5039.

The individuals who will be instrumental in the facilitation of your Boys and Girls Regional Tennis competitions will be Diego Benitez, our head men’s and women’s tennis coach and, Dmitry Minkin, assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach. Randy McDonald will serve as the USTA Tournament Referee.

The last page of this information handbook is a 2016 Class 6A Region I Boys and Girls Tennis Championships billing invoice for your use in processing the entry fees for your individual student athletes and teams participating in these UIL Regional events. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions whatsoever regarding the entry fees for these regional championship tournaments.

Entries and Fees: All entries and fees of $25.00 per person per event, (non-refundable) must be sent to the Regional Director.

All entries must be mailed IMMEDIATELY after the District tournament.
Pairings: A coaches’ meeting will be held for the arranging of seeding and pairings at

6:00 pm on Monday, April 18, 2016 in the Gilstrap Athletic Center next to Maverick Stadium on the UT Arlington campus. All coaches attending the seeding meeting must bring the win/loss records and other information on the players for seeding purposes. If a coach cannot be present at this meeting, he/she should send the players’ win/loss records and other information on the players to UT Arlington Athletics: 1309 West Mitchell Arlington, Texas 76019. This information can also be faxed to 817-272-5037. The faxed information should be received no later than Friday, April 15, 2016.


Schedule: Following the coaches’ meeting, a schedule will be prepared and posted. Any coach who does not attend the meeting should report to the UT Arlington Tennis Center no later than 7:30 am on Tuesday, April 20, 2016 to pick up draw sheets and enter participants.
Balls: Teams will provide their own tennis balls; Wilson, Dunlop, or Penn USTA

Championship Approved Yellow Balls. The winner of each match takes the

tennis ball can which has not been opened.
Stringing: A stringer will be available at the Tennis Center. Cost of each stringing job is

$15.00 plus an additional charge for strings if the strings are not provided.


Parking: There is no charge for parking at the Arlington Tennis Center, however space is limited. Priority in the parking will be for officials, schools dropping off and picking up student-athletes, and participant coaches and administrators. General parking spaces will be identified around the Tennis Center.
Awards: Awards will be present at the final matches in each event. Both the first and second place winners qualify to the state meet. Third place winners will also receive medals.
T-Shirts and Commemorative Patches: Regional participant t-shirts and commemorative patches will

be available for sale on-site during the first day of the

Regional Tournament.
