Last month I heard a song about the 'language'. It was composed marking the 
language day of a South Asian country named Bangladesh. The song is titled as 
"Amar Bhiayer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February, Ami Ki Bhulite Pari". In fact, I 
heard the song for the first time and is in love with it.
The song is about the martyrs of language movement. As far as I came to know 
that there had been a language movement in Bangladesh in 1952. The majority 
of the people spoke Bengali as the first language while the then government 
tried to impose another language upon them. The government wanted to 
impose the Urdu language as the mother tongue of the local people of the 
country. But the agitated people protested against the decision and police 
opened fire on them. As a result, some of the protestors were killed in that 
event. To commemorate the event, the day is observed across the country and 
the world as well.
The song originates in Bangladesh. This is a country that has a long history to 
tell. The people of this state are extremely industrious and had struggled a lot 
since after the birth of the nation. Before its liberation in 1971, it was enslaved 
by the Pakistani rulers. In fact, the spirit of the liberation movement began in 
1952. It was the time of language movement. The rulers of Pakistan tried to 
oppress the people of this country, but they failed due to the brave attempts 
of the local people. They started oppression with the language. They wanted to 
impose the Urdu language as the state langue of Bangladesh. The state was 
known as East Pakistan then. Since the majority of the people spoke in the 
Bengali language, they protested severely against the government decision. 
Some protestors were killed and then the song was composed to show respect 
to the martyrs of the movement.
The song tells the story of the martyrs who lost lives in the language 
movement. The song is also about the griefs of mothers, their families about 
the loss of lives. It tells that the day, 21st February, has been achieved by the 
contributions of the sons and their mothers are weeping for the children they 
have lost. The song begins with the statement that a brother is sacrificed for

achieving the day while the singer is unable to forget about the day. Everyone 
is mourning the deaths. They will not forget the day. Each year they remember 
the day by singing the song.
This song appears really interesting to me for some reasons. The people who 
sing the song visit the martyrs’ memorial known as Shaheed Minar where the 
people were martyred on that day. Besides, they sing the song and move for 
the memorial with a black dress – which refers they are mourning and on 
barefoot. They pay tribute to the martyrs by placing wreaths on the memorial. 
The entire nation observes the day and the song is on the air. In line with the 
country, the song has also reached in my nation, Somalia. We also observe the 
day like the other global nations. I like the song much. It has a very different 
tone, lyric and creates a sense of sadness inside. It appears that I have lost 
someone near and dear to. In this sense, this is a really great song. It is 
interesting indeed to me.
