5) Dissimilation- The phonetic changes which results in a sharpening of the difference between two phoneme

6)Elision- is the omission of a sound in rapid speech

7)Haploloy- is the process of dropping a group of sound which should be articulated twice in a word

8)Deletion- is a process that removes a segment from certain phonetic contexts.

9)Palatalization- is a secondary articulation in which the front of the tongue is raised toward the hard palate.

10)Flapping- is a process in which a dental or alveolar stop articulation changes to a flap articulation.

Lecture 6

1)Articulatory-point of view the syllable may be regarded as a single uninterrupted unit of utterance which coincide with a word

2) Acoustic –perceptual point of view a syllable is a wave of loudness characterized by prosodic features .

3)Constitutive function- syllable or syllables act as material carriers of words , word – formation, word- combination and phrases

4)Recognitive function- the recognition of the righi syllable formation and syllable division rules

5)Delimitative function some syllables may occur only in initial or final position in words

6)Accenteme The phonological function of dynamic stress

7)Transcription- is a special phonetic alphabet by means of which the sound system or a system of phonemes of particular language is represented

8)Syllables- used in writing and printing for the purpose of application of reading rules.
