ESP
“is an approach to an organizing English language programs in such a way that the content of the courses offered is relevant to the specific needs of specific group of learners”.
It has 4 phases: 
1.Identification of needs 2.The production of materials 3. Teaching
4.Testing
ESP is:
Interested in investigating needs, preparing authentic teaching materials, purposes related orientation
Devising appropriate teaching methodologies
Providing the maximum possible support in the limited time available

Focus on its communicative orientation
ESP is that area of English language teaching which focuses on preparing learners “for chosen communicative environments” (Mohan, 1986)
ESP is a branch of the tree of English language teaching (ELT) but the roots that nourish it are communication and learning (Hutchinson and Waters, 2002)
Definition 2 characteristics


ABSOLUTE:
1. Must be designed for learners’ needs
2. Must be related to the discipline it serves in terms of methodology
3. It is a language course and must be taught by a language teacher


VARIABLE(the course can have them, but they vary in different situations
