UNOFFICIAL COPY AS OF 06/24/17 12 REG. SESS. 12 RS BR 1157 A RESOLUTION honoring the faculty, staff, parents, and students of South Heights Elementary School. WHEREAS, South Heights Elementary School, Henderson County, has 90 percent of its students receiving free and reduced-priced meals, about four percent of its students using English as a second language, and 24 percent of the students are considered to have special needs, circumstances that some would use as excuses for low achievement; and WHEREAS, in 2001 the school's students scoring in the proficient and distinguished categories in reading and math were 24.25 percent and 11.69 percent respectively; and WHEREAS, during the 2010-2011 school year, a total of 89.5 percent of students scored in the proficient and distinguished categories in reading and 90.52 percent of students scored in the proficient and distinguished categories in math; and WHEREAS, in 2000, South Heights Elementary School was in the bottom 25 of all elementary schools in Kentucky but this year it is 26th out of 724 elementary schools; and WHEREAS, last year South Heights Elementary School was first in the district in math, science, and social studies; and WHEREAS, South Heights Elementary School has accomplished great academic achievements by creating a team that includes the faculty, staff, parents, and students who all believe in the same vision; and WHEREAS, the team spends time creating a specific picture of where it wants to be and then the whole team works incredibly hard to get there; and WHEREAS, the team believes that "work" situations can be "fun" situations and that happy, engaged, and unrelenting team members can accomplish higher levels of results; and WHEREAS, South Heights Elementary School deliberately shares a constant, positive, engaging message about the school with the community; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby recognize and honor the faculty, staff, parents, and students of South Heights Elementary School for their commitment to high academic achievement and encourage them to continue to strive for excellence. Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the principal of South Heights Elementary School, Mr. Robin E.
