The Survey Results are in!

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to our survey. To date, we have received over 80 responses! I want to start by defining a group run as SlyFox Track Club sees it.

We want to create a place where runners of all abilities can come together and meet and head out for a run for whatever reason suits them. There are no prerequisites for joining in on a group run. The reason you run is personal to you. Some run because they are competitive, some run to stay healthy, some run to eat and drink more and some run for companionship.

When you come to a group run you may not run every step of every run with someone. Don’t feel pressured to do so. We normally start as a group and there is always someone that waits until everyone has finished. We wanted to create an environment where members could feel safe. Running with a group has the potential to increase your speed and your endurance but only if you also put the work into it, and certainly, that doesn’t need to be your goal. If someone chooses to run with you when you think they should be going faster, don’t question it! Trust me; they are doing it because they want to. That is the beauty of a running group. The only one that can hold you back is you; the group can only push you forward.

One overarching theme that we gleaned from our response was that a number of individuals, (of varying levels and abilities) are reluctant to join in on group runs for fear that they will be too slow (not gonna happen!) or that they will hold someone back or get lost. We will be addressing that concern with some beginner-friendly locations after the time change (March12 this year) and the longer daylight hours will help that as well. The group as a whole seemed like the starting time frame of 4pm – 6pm during the work week; these will continue with some variation on location. In addition we will be adding some early AM runs in the summer- time for teaching crowd.

After March 12, our scheduled group runs will be as follows:

Our challenge for the Saturday long runs has been finding a host. The same 5 or 6 members have been hosting now for quite a while. If you are interested in hosting with an experienced host please reach out and we will be happy to match you up! Hosting a run includes putting out the water stops (we will provide you with the supplies), mapping out a route, waiting for the last runner to come back safely and the retrieving the water stops. This is not a one person job. Please consider doing this as a team of two. We are now offering a punch on our volunteer card for hosting a long run on Saturday. The Sunday run and weekday runs don’t need water stops or hosts per se, but for the Sunday runs we are looking for a new fun place to run so we’d love to have you share your favorite route with us.

We would like to keep the times on the Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday runs consistent so people with kids, travel plans, and unusual work schedules can plan in advance. If you would like to add additional runs on our calendar please do; the more opportunities to run safely as a group the better. We have a Google document on the Facebook page as well as the website slyfoxtrack.com For that Google document, we welcome almost all additions; we only ask that you do not add a run or a time to run in close proximity to a club sponsored event that is already scheduled to cut down on confusion.

Thanks for your input and if we did not address a concern of yours please reach out!!!
