The East Orange School District FOCUS Parent Portal

WHAT IS THE FOCUS PARENT PORTAL?
The FOCUS Parent Portal is a new, web-based student information system that allows parents of students in grades 1 thru 12 to view their children’s grades, assignments, attendance and report cards online. 
WHO SHOULD USE THE EAST ORANGE FOCUS PARENT PORTAL?
The FOCUS Parent Portal is available to all parents and guardians of EOSD students in grades 1-12.
HOW DO I CREATE AN ACCOUNT?
There are 2 steps that need to be completed in order to create an account on the East Orange School District Parent Portal.

To Register
~ Go to the East Orange School District Web Site at www.eastorange.k12.nj.us

Find the section called Today’s Highlights.

Under Today’s Highlights you will see icons that scroll from left to right.
Click on the icon that says FOCUS Parent Portal.

~ The next page will give you a short description of the FOCUS Parent Portal.

Read it and then click on the 1^st link

The link will open up to the following page.

If this is your first time registering yourself and your child, choose the first option.

Otherwise, if you:

1. 
   Are a returning parent
   
2. 
   Have already registered your child and yourself, but would like to add another child
   
3. 
   Already received a username and password
   

Please choose the second option.
(Note: Please do not register Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten students.)
~ First time users will then be directed to the following page.

Registering adults are required to enter their First Name, Last Name and a valid email address.

By clicking Submit you have successfully registered yourself.

~ The next screen will require you to register your child.

In order tor register your child you will need your child’s Student Id number. and Birthdate. In most cases children will know their Student ID number because it doubles as their lunch number, but if the student ID # if not known please contact your child’s school to retrieve this number. FOCUS will not allow you to register your child without this information.
If the information pertaining to your child was entered correctly the student’s name will be revealed on the next screen.

You will be given the option to either add another child or “create my account”. Adding another child will return you to the screen asking for the students’ information. Clicking on CREATE MY ACCOUNT will lead you to the following screen.

This screen is thanking you for registering for the East Orange FOCUS Parent portal, but in order to get your username and password you must go to your child’s school to verify who you are. We ask you to verify your identity for the safety and protection of our students and any information pertaining to them on the Parent Portal.

To Verify
To verify you must go to your child’s school with the following documents.

1. 
   A Valid Photo ID
   
2. 
   Proof of Address
   
3. 
   Proof of child’s Birthdate (photocopies of birth certificates are not acceptable)
   
4. 
   A copy of the Parent Portal Acceptable Use Policy (This will be given to you by your child’s school or you can download a copy from the East Orange School District Web Site).
   

Schools will only keep the signed copy of the Parent Portal Acceptable Use Policy. After your documents are checked they will immediately be returned to you along with your username and password.

If you have more than one child attending the same school you can verify at that school and be given access to all of their information. However, if you have children in various schools throughout the District, you must go to each individual school to verify who you are. You will only have access to the child’s record at whose school you verified. For example, if you have children attending both Parks Academy and Garvin School and you only went to verify at Gavin then you will only have access to your children attending Garvin, not Parks. You must go Parks Academy to verify who you are in order to gain access to your children at Parks Academy.
No matter at which school you verify, your username and password will always be the same.
HOW DO I LOG INTO THE FOCUS PARENT PORTAL?

After you’ve received your username and password:

Go to the East Orange School District Web Site, select Parent Portal from Today’s Highlights and then click on the 2^nd link that says https://focus.eastorange.k12.nj.us/focus
~ OR ~
Simply type https://focus.eastorange.k12.nj.us/focus in your web browser.

I CAN’T REMMEBER MY PASSWORD
If you do not remember your password, DO NOT contact your child’s school. Go to the East Orange School District Web Site, select Parent Portal from Today’s Highlights and then click on the 1^st link https://focus.eastorange.k12.nj.us/focus/auth/

Choose the option “ I have forgotten my password and would like to generate a new one”

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CHILD MOVES TO ANOTHER SCHOOL WITHIN THE DISTRICT?
FOCUS Parent Portal accounts roll over from year to year, so when your child moves from elementary school to middle school and then to high school, you do not have to create a new account. Also, if your child is transferred from one school/ to another school in our district, your account will be updated with the new school information.

HOW DO I USE THE FOCUS PARENT PORTAL?
Tutorials have been provided for you support on the East Orange School District Web Site. Go to the East Orange School District Web Site, select Parent Portal from Today’s Highlights and then click either Parent Portal Doc or Parent Portal PPT.
