The Moscow Metro is a metro system that serves Moscow, Russia, and the neighboring cities of Krasnogorsk, Reutov, Lyubertsy, and Kotelniki in the Moscow region.

Opened in 1935 with an 11-kilometer (6.8-mile) line and 13 stations, it was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union.

As of 2021, the Moscow Metro has 250 stations (287 with the Moscow Central Circle) in addition to the Moscow Central Circle, the Moscow Central Diameter and the Moscow Monorail, and its route length is 435.7 km (270.7 miles). , it is the fifth longest in the world and the longest outside China.

The system is mostly underground, with Park Pobedy, one of the deepest underground stations in the world, at a depth of 74 meters (243 feet). It is the busiest metro system in Europe and is itself a tourist attraction.

The Moscow Metro is a state-owned enterprise, 381 km long (237 miles), consisting of 15 lines and 250 stations, organized in a network distribution paradigm, where most of the railway lines are radial.

The Moscow Metro opens at 05:25 and closes at 01:00. The exact opening time varies at different stations depending on the arrival of the first train, but all stations close their entrances at 01:00 for simultaneous service, and so do the transfer corridors.

Deep stations consist of 55 three-story column stations, 19 three-dome column stations, and one vault station.

Currently, only 81 trains operate on the subway.The rolling stock on the Koltsevaya line is being replaced by 81-740 / 741 Russian four-car trains

From August 11, 1969 to October 26, 2019, the Moscow Metro included the 3.3 km long Kakhovskaya line with 3 stations closed for long-term reconstruction. It was reopened on December 7, 2021 after being reconstructed as part of the Kakhovskaya Bolshaya Koltsevaya line. In 2022, reopening is planned at Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya stations as part of the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line
