RE: Past, Present & Future Club Dates & Events

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! WOW…can you believe 2008 is already here?!?! I am excited because that means more boating events, more get togethers with our Grady families, meeting new members, and making memories to last a lifetime. For a quick trip down memory lane for 2007 and some great Trivia, see attachment to this email written by our Fleet Captain, Dan Clark. So…if you want to be a part of all this and then some, start your engines and join us for the following festivities scheduled:
MONTHLY DINNER MEETING – is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16th, at Mamma Nunzia Restaurant located at 1975 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda (941) 575-7575 at 7:00 p.m. – Board members will meet at 6:00 p.m. Dinner selections will be off the regular dinner menu and separate checks will be given. Please email me if you are planning to attend this dinner by Wednesday, January 9th, so I can get a head count for the restaurant (I have received only 14 responses to date! – the Erb’s, the Clark’s, the Saunders’, the Kraemer’s, the Muller’s, the Wolfinger’s and the Reynolds’). Our guest speaker will be Captain Ron from Sea Tow and you won’t want to miss the great presentation he has in store for us.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 26TH – Lunch at Portobello’s at Burnt Store Marina - arrive by 12:30 p.m. for lunch at 1:00 p.m. Please RSVP to our Fleet Captain, Dan Clark, either by phone (941) 347-8086 or cheranddan@comcast.net no later than Thursday, January 10th, if you will be attending and coming via boat or car so that he can give the restaurant a headcount and to make sure there will be sufficient boat slips reserved for our group. For more specific details and directions, please check our website.
SPECIAL RAFFLE TICKET FUNDRAISER – along with our monthly dinner ticket raffle we normally do (1/2 of ticket monies go to Club and the other ½ goes to a lucky participant), we will also be selling tickets for an extra “special” raffle at our January monthly dinner meeting and at our Anniversary Dinner for a Sea Tow Membership, which will be presented at our Anniversary Dinner. So…don’t miss out!

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND – TCGWBC 2ND ANNIVERSARY DINNER PARTY & ANNUAL MEETING FOR ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS – will be held at The Isles Yacht Club in Punta Gorda. This event will start at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails (cash bar) and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. After dinner our Annual Meeting for the election of new board Officers and Directors will take place and then we will have our “special” raffle ticket giveaway (Sea Tow Membership) and door prizes. Dress attire for this gala event will be a collared shirt and jacket (no tie) for the men and the ladies can deck themselves out accordingly. As this will be an evening that you will not want to miss, I will need your RSVP no later than Wednesday, January 23rd, so we can have a final headcount for this event. Cost for this event will be $25.00 per couple, which check needs to be made payable to “Tarpon Coast Grady White Boat Club” and sent to Dan Eisenberg at 1618 New Point Comfort Road, Englewood, FL 34223, no later than January 30th, 2008.
REMINDER – The Officers and Directors for the 2008 watch will be elected at the Club’s Annual Meeting on February 2, 2008. If you would like to become more active in directing the activities of your Club and are willing to serve as an officer or director, please submit your name to Frank Muller who is functioning as the nominating committee for this year’s election. Email to fgmuller@aol.com or call him at (941) 833-8359.
2008 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES – please make sure that your Annual Dues in the amount of $25.00 is paid by January 15th. These monies should be made payable to “Tarpon Coast Grady White Boat Club” and sent to our Treasurer, Dan Eisenberg at 1618 New Point Comfort Road, Englewood, FL 34223. If not paid by February 1st, you will become inactive. To reapply, it will cost a Boat Club Member $75.00 which will not include a new burgee or t-shirts.
DUE TO ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY PARTY, THERE WILL BE NO MONTHLY DINNER MEETING IN FEBRUARY.
SATURDAY, MARCH 29th - we will be holding our annual Vessel Safety Check. In the event of rain, it will be re-scheduled for Saturday, April 5th. It will be held at the new Laishley Park Municipal Marina at 11:00 a.m. More specific details are to be given at a later date.
SPRING, 2008 – TRIP TO CRYSTAL RIVER AND HOMOSASSA is in the planning stages at this time. More specific details as to dates, etc., to be forthcoming.
FISHING CONTEST – for the 4th quarter of 2007, it appears our first place winner is Juli Eisenberg with Doug Cox trailing behind in 2nd and Ron Bembry in third place. Congratulations and way to go, Juli….job well done! Check out our website for details on their respective catches….quite impressive!
OTHER NEWS:
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15THwas a trip for lunch to The Eagle Grille in Boca Grande and a great time was had by all. Please check out our website for photos of this event.
RECIPE CORNER - We now have a Recipe Corner on our website thanks to our Webmaster, Dan Eisenberg. Please send your recipe(s) to Dan at djmeberg@comcast.net and he will post them to our website. Thank you….
BOAT DETAILING TIP - On a personal note….we recently had our boat waxed by Nathan Combs of Blue Water Detailers (239)464-6750, who, if you recall, was a guest speaker at one of our monthly dinner meetings (March, 2007). Might I add, he did an excellent job and someone we would highly recommend. He is now using some new products (thanks to our Club member, Tracy Rudolph) which are Collinites #925 – Fiberglass Boat Wax for new boats with little chalk and Collinites #885 – Special Heavy Duty Fleet Wax for Marine & Aeronautical Finishes for older boats which he indicated gives the best shine he has ever seen. These products are a little more expensive, but well worth the buck and finds that the finish lasts longer. The latter is hard to use so you need to apply to a small area and then remove. He also stated that you can wax by hand, if the boat has no chalk, but prefers to use a machine for a better finish and shine. So…try these products and see for yourself, or if you have any tips on any products you use, let us know, so we can share your comments with the rest of our Club members.
We still have Club jackets and t-shirts available for sale. If anyone is interested please contact our Fleet Captain, Dan Clark.
And….for any details I may have forgotten, please refer to our Club’s website at http://home.comcast.net/~tcgwbc/home/index.html on upcoming events and photos of past events courtesy of Dan Eisenberg, our Treasurer and Webmaster.
Hope to see you all soon!
