Did you know a great way to stretch your grocery budget and provide fresh vegetables and fruits for your family is to shop at a local Farmers Market or Produce stand. Healthy Snacks ideas for kids: cut up carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, broccoli, lightly steamed green beans you can include a dip made from cottage cheese and Ranch salad dressing whirred up in a blender also Kids may eat fruit happier if it is cut into a fruit salad. Also most Farmers Markets and many Produce stands accept EBT cards and some even accept WIC visit for listing, here are a few in our area:

FREE Summer Playgrounds Program 2017

The Summer Playgrounds Program is an absolutely FREE program that provides your child with an active way to enjoy summer. Each one of our five parks will be offering plenty of games, arts and crafts, sports, special events and even a free sack lunch at each playground site. This program will begin on Wednesday, June 28 and runs until Thursday, August 17. We will be waiting for you to show up every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at one of our selected playground sites. West Fenwick Park, Morrill Meadows Park, Chestnut Ridge Park, Kiwanis Tot Lot #1 and Kiwanis Tot Lot #2 Program hours: 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Free Summer Concert Series

Kent summer concerts presented by the City of Kent and Kent Station throughout July and August enjoy a variety of the region’s best live performances in some of Kent’s most beautiful parks for FREE visit or call (253)856-5050 for more information.

The Summer Concert Series will feature “Take Out Tuesdays” concerts at Kent Station Plaza 417 Ramsay Way noon-1:00pm, “Picnic Performances” on Wednesdays at noon-1:00pm at Town Square Plaza 2nd Ave. and Harrison Street, “Wednesday at Kent Station” 6:00pm-8:00pm, “Thursdays at the Lake” concerts at 7:00 pm-8:30pm at Lake Meridian Park. Residential Camp at Waskowitz

A week of fun, a lifetime of memories. Campfires, sing-alongs, hiking, swimming, beach parties and more. An overnight camp for boys and girls entering 5th, 6th and 7th grades (Fall 2017). A $25 non-refundable deposit will hold your child’s spot; all fees are due paid in full by Monday July 18th, 2016. Parent and camper information nights will be held at Kent Commons on June 14 and July 12 from 6:30–7:30 pm.

CAMP W.A.L.K.A.P.A.L.A. Scholarships Available!

Camp W.A.L.K.A.P.A.L.A offers your K-6th grader (Fall 2017) a safe, exciting and memory-making experience full of friends and fun. Your child’s day will be filled with a variety of sports, games, arts & crafts, songs and other fun camp activities that will keep them active and engaged throughout the entire summer. Camp hours are 7:00am-6:00pm, Kent School District offers a free lunch daily or you may send a sack lunch Location East Hill Elementary (9825 S. 240th St). Also available is Camp W.A.L.K.A.P.A.L.A Counselor in Training Program for participants who are going into the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade (Fall 2017) and are genuinely interested in acquiring the skills necessary to be a camp counselor. CIT’s will learn leadership skills, enjoy camp activities and help create great summer memories for younger campers.
