Uzbekistan at the Tokyo Olympics: results, medals, records

The XXXII Summer Olympic Games have ended in Tokyo. The national team of Uzbekistan on August 9 returned to their homeland, where the athletes were greeted with all the honors. Below there’s the team's achievements.

• In Japan, the Uzbek team won 5 awards: three "gold" and two "bronze", taking the 32nd place in the team. These Games became the second most successful after the triumphant result in Rio, when the athletes of the republic managed to get 13 awards.However, the current result is quite worthy: the second place in the post-Soviet space after Russia, the first among the Turkic-speaking countries and countries of Central Asia, and also the fifth in Asia.In addition to medals, athletes from Uzbekistan will be remembered by the whole world for two achievements - Olympic records in weightlifting: Muattar Nabiyeva in the category up to 55 kg in the snatch took the whole 98 kg, and weightlifter Akbar Juraev lifted a record 430 kilos on the sum of two attempts.In addition, the country can be proud of the youngest Uzbek Olympic champion - 19-year-old taekwondo player Ulugbek Rashitov.

• Uzbekistan was represented by 67 athletes at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Athletes of Uzbekistan won 71 licenses in 17 sports, which was a record figure for the country. In March 2020, the IOC Executive Board, continuing the policy of gender equality at the Olympic Games, approved changes to the protocol of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games, according to which the National Olympic Committees have the opportunity to declare one man and one woman as standard-bearers. At the opening ceremony of the Games of the Uzbekistan national team, the Olympic champion of 1992, as part of the Joint Team, gymnast Oksana Chusovitina and boxer Bobo-Usmon Baturov were announced as the standard bearers at the opening ceremony of the Games. But on July 23, a replacement was made and boxer Bakhodir Jalolov and taekwondo player Nigora Tursunkulova became the standard-bearers of the Uzbekistan national team. Prize medalists of the Olympiad were set in the amount of: gold medalists - 200,000 US dollars; Silver medalists - USD 100,000; bronze medalists - USD 50,000.
