Geometry Honors Course Outline – Fall 2011

Mrs. Basaman
Materials: You will need to have these things with you every day

  • Notebook (three-ring binder)

  • Pencils and erasers

  • Compass

  • Ruler

  • Protractor

  • 100 notecards and ring or shoelace

  • Highlighter

  • Colored Pencils (recommended but not necessary)

  • Scientific, TI-83, or TI-84 Silver Edition Graphing Calculator (We will use the calculator frequently and I STRONGLY recommend you purchase one of your own. If you cannot purchase a calculator, please see me and we can work out alternative arrangements.)

  • Covered textbook – if you purchase a book sock, please make sure it is EXTRA LARGE!!!!

Textbook: Prentice Hall Geometry – 2007 Edition
Grading:

  • Students will be graded on a cumulative point system.

      • Each test, quiz, or other graded assignment will be given a point value.



  • Homework is worth 25 points. Points are deducted when homework is not complete.

  • Tests are approximately 40-60 points and quizzes are approximately 20-35 points.

  • Cheating will result in a grade of ZERO for the given assignment.


Student progress can be monitored through the Parent Portal of the Genesis Student Information System. This system will enable you to access student grades and attendance online. This student information will be updated in a timely fashion throughout the school year.

Homework:

  • Homework will be assigned daily and is due at the beginning of the following block.

  • When you are absent, the responsibility is on YOU to make sure you check the course website for homework and up-to-date information.

  • I require that students show all work and the assignment be done in pencil; without these two things, assignments will not be accepted.

  • If you do not understand a problem, you must copy the entire problem and leave enough room to fill in the work and correct answer.

  • Late homework will not be accepted. We need to go over our homework every day and that doesn’t work if you don’t do it!

  • No partial credit will be given for homework; it is either complete or it is a zero.

  • Your homework must have the proper heading:

Absences/Lates:

  • If you are absent from school you will have the same number of days to make up all notes, homework, and tests/quizzes. After that period of time, you will lose credit. It is your responsibility to show me the work and schedule make-up tests.

  • If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you are late. 3 lates to class less than 10 minutes translates to an absence. Late more than 10 minutes is an absence. Other rules as per school policy (3 lates = teacher detention; 6+ lates = referral).

  • It is important that you are in class on test/quiz days. If you are absent on these days, you MUST make up the test/quiz after school or during another arranged time, NOT during class time. You have already missed one class period; you cannot afford to miss another.

  • POLICY FOR MAKE-UPS – once you miss a quiz or a test, it must be made up prior to the next assessment. In the event that this doesn’t happen, the first grade will be changed to a 0.


Expectations for Behavior

  • When class begins, I expect that you are ready to go… in your seat, with homework out, and working on Do Now. We are here to work.

  • Respect classmates, teachers and yourself. This is YOUR education, please take it seriously.

  • You are expected to follow all school rules while in my classroom (i.e. no headphones/cell phones, ho hoods/hats, no book bags/backpacks, etc.)


Extra Help/Detention: I will be available on Wednesday afternoons after school in Room 570. Students will be notified by the teacher if an extra help day needs to change. Detentions will be served on the day after they are given. This will allow for any scheduling problems.
In order for a successful year, it is imperative that you abide by all school and classroom rules. YOU are responsible for your behavior and will be held accountable for any and all of your actions. We need to have respect for everyone in the classroom in order to have a productive learning environment.
Basically, I will do my best to teach you, but you need to do your best to learn. If we all do our part, this will be a great year!!

During the course of the semester, your child should be checking my website for up-to-date information on homework, tests, and other useful information; the website can be accessed at www.manasquanschools.org He or she will also receive a calendar or assignment sheet for each chapter’s homework assignments. Please ask to see this so that you can help make sure the assignments are being done. Also, you should expect an updated progress report approximately every other week.
