Plattsmouth Community Foundation Fund now Accepting 2010 Grant Applications
The Plattsmouth Community Foundation Fund is pleased to announce that it is now accepting grant applications for the Atkinson Endowment Fund and the Plattsmouth Community Foundation General Fund. The deadline for this grant cycle is February 12, 2010. Applications are available on-line at http://www.nebcommfound.org/affiliated-funds/find/details/1948/ or may be picked up at the Edward Jones office at 341 Main Street, Plattsmouth, NE.
This year $8,000 will be granted to local qualified applicants. The purpose of these grants is to respond to present and emerging needs in the Plattsmouth community area by making grants for charitable purposes.
The Plattsmouth Community Foundation Fund Advisory Committee members will carefully review grant applications and recommend grants to be awarded. Priority consideration will be given to projects and programs that: have potential for long-term impact; address an emerging community need, or provide a creative solution to an existing community need or opportunity; result in the greatest good for the greatest number of people; directly involve volunteers in hands-on services supporting the project; and have secured additional funding from other sources.
In 2009, grants totaling more than $10,000 were made to: $1,000 City of Plattsmouth for a plaque at Garfield Park; $1,000 Chautauqua Event; $1,500 Lions Club Plants for Rylander Park; $1,500 Plattsmouth Chamber Mural on Main Street Building; $1,500 to the Plattsmouth Community Center for an Automated External Defibrillator; $1,563 to the Plattsmouth Rotary for dictionaries to Plattsmouth/Conestoga schools; $1,100 Friends of Plattsmouth Public Library to purchase an aquarium for the library; $500 Plattsmouth Rescue Squad for three GPS units for Plattsmouth Rescue Squad; and $500 to the Plattsmouth Conservancy.
Grant Winners, in addition to the 2010 Volunteer of the Year, will be announced at the Plattsmouth Community Foundation Funds Annual Meeting which will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010. The event is being held at the Plattsmouth Community Center with a social hour beginning at 5:00 PM and the official program starting at 6:00 PM. The public is invited to attend.
The Plattsmouth Community Foundation Fund will not consider grants for religious purposes, political activities, annual fund drives or to individuals (except for scholarships.) Grants will be made to non-profit charitable organizations that serve the Plattsmouth area and are qualified as exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Documentation of this status is required from all applicants. Grants will also be made to units of local government such as the City, County, School District, or Fire District.
