Diving
Diving is a special direction in scuba diving. There is nothing artificial, mechanical here that would prevent you from dissolving in the bottomless silence of the living, filled with the sounds of its inhabitants of the sea. Free diving - deep diving without scuba gear while holding your breath, that is, using only the capabilities of your body, is impossible without good physical shape, muscle training and endurance. This is a sport that requires serious and constant work. But the ability to hold your breath is not limited to the physical fitness of the body. This is the art of managing processes at more subtle levels, controlling the state of consciousness, thoughts, emotions, sensations. This is the ability to manage oneself, allowing one to step beyond the limits of the possible. In addition, free diving is the art of getting the most out of life. Relax endlessly.
Free diving: diving in fins with a mask and snorkel while holding your breath with the preliminary use of a special breathing technique (hyperventilation) and with a long stay under water (from 45 s to 3 minutes or more) to depths from m and over 100 m
This is a natural, natural way in scuba diving for everyone: outdoor enthusiasts, "maniacs" diving to extreme depths. This may seem like a step back from the technical possibilities of scuba diving, which have become super popular thanks to J.-Y. Cousteau. Now it has become clear that this is not so - free diving is a higher and more difficult stage in scuba diving at a certain stage, a new way in knowing the sea, its capabilities and a wonderful view of outdoor activities for everyone. The time has come when you can change your views on this hobby and make it accessible to everyone. A new look at free diving is an opportunity to penetrate the underwater world without bulky, technically complex equipment, not to be tied to certain places, equipped with scuba gear and compressors, not to depend on time. This is an opportunity to observe cautious marine life without scaring them with air bubbles and breathing noise. And finally, it is self-knowledge. The ability to achieve the maximum realization of the possibilities inherent in our body.
A bit of history
History proves that mankind never had the beginning of diving, or rather, the ability to dive appeared with the first man, and it is genetically predetermined by the entire evolution of the origin of life on Earth. Apnea has always been an innate ability of a person - diving while holding his breath is as much a part of his usual behavior as running or climbing trees. Apnea (from Greek a - denial, pnoe - breathing - lack of breathing) is a conscious or involuntary breath holding. In the myths and religions of all times and peoples, the ocean occupies a special place. The man who lived by the sea has always been inextricably linked with it. Until very recently, man plunged into the sea only while holding his breath in order to get his livelihood. The fact that prehistoric and cavemen known to us sank to the bottom of lakes and seas near the coast to collect shellfish, algae that they ate can be concluded from fossil shells that are found today in the places of their settlements in the most unexpected places on the planet: Tierra del Fuego and the coast of the Baltic and North Seas, in Polynesia, Asia and Africa, both in the Mediterranean and in Red Seas. We can say with confidence about the existence of divers - apnoists 4500 years ago: jewelry with pearls was found in Mesopotamia, the only way to get it was immersion.
The Greeks were the first Europeans to demonstrate a real knowledge of underwater life: in the descriptions of Herodotus there is evidence of the feat of the diver Scillius of Scion and his daughter, who cut the moorings of the fleet of Xerxes. Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC created detachments of warriors - divers - strong trained swimmers like commandos, capable of staying under water for a long time. The Phoenicians and Carthaginians always had apnoist divers on board their ships.
The existence of divers in the Solomon Islands at least 3000 years ago is evidenced by the found ancient diving glasses, with a frame made of wood and skillfully thinned to transparency with tortoise shell scales, instead of glasses. Similar glasses have been found in Persia, Ceylon, the Red Sea Coast, and other Pacific islands. To this day, many peoples have professional divers living on income from diving in apnea - lobster divers from the Caicos Islands, Ama in Japan, ferocious Itomeni divers from the islands of Okinawa and Ishigaki, Bajao - sea nomads from the Philippines, Polynesian pearl collectors.
The development of civilization, on the one hand, allowed man to go much further in the development of the deep sea. Various submersibles, submarines, scuba gear made it possible to reach unprecedented depths, to stay under water for a long time, breathing compressed air. But all this simultaneously alienated man from the ocean - led to the almost complete disappearance of Homo Delphinus. Man has lost his natural ability to dive freely like a dolphin, without resorting to artificial devices, to feel himself a part of the sea, to swim "in the same boat with the sea."
The history of free diving
The history of free diving has more than three thousand years, although as a sport this art has existed only since the middle of the 20th century. Free diving is not only a sport, but also a kind of ideology, which is based on the freedom of movement in harmony with the world. Free diving techniques allow you to step beyond human capabilities, learn to manage yourself, getting the maximum enjoyment from life. The records of free divers are amazing: it turns out that diving to a depth of more than 150 meters or holding your breath for 8 minutes is not a myth at all!
Free diving as a sport appeared in the middle of the twentieth century in Europe. In the age of technological progress, there was no need to dive for food or pearl fishing. However, it is clear that human beings, living by the sea, continued to swim and dive, holding their breath, but they did it already for fun. In the 1930s, modern diving masks and fins appeared. The Mediterranean coast of Europe embraces the craze for spearfishing. The first underwater photographers appear. The growing interest in the underwater world also generates interest in the possibilities of man in this world. The question arises - how long and how deep can a person dive without harming himself? Where is the limit of human capabilities and can it be overcome? If possible, how? In addition, a person is a gambling creature and, in a competitive heat, is ready for many feats. Questions - Who is deeper? and Who is longer? - provoke new achievements.
